The distrobution company..(most always, that same company that release your film into theaters) has bought the film from you... the dvd sales profits are brought in, and based on your contracted agreement, a FAT portion goes to the distro company, then usually the producer(s) get a cut of net profits, the director usually gets a cut of net profits, and then based on the orginal agreement the producers made with the investors, they may or may not get a cut. That really depends on the previous agreements. non-union actors typically don't get a cut, but main roles, union, i believe get some type of cut.
Keep in mind that no matter how many might deserve the cut, the distro most likey won't budge to the percentage they are going to take...(in taking less). So then the rest must be divided up by the different people...director, producers, actors, investors
Yep, the distribution company makes the money! On a DVD deal for example, the producer might make 20% of NET profits, which means after the distributor recoups manufacturing and marketing expenses.
