Who Else hates MAC warranties?

you mean applecare?

Anyone else notice that it seems like they always seem to find a loophole where they dont have to fix/replace their boo-boos?

I snapped a few hinges on my powerbook titanium, and they said it was my fault b/c of neglect etc.

Although I dont honestly know 10 people who havent broken their hinges on the same model. Oddly enough they completely redesigned the next gen (alum.) powerbook to a single large hinge....

Wonder why---

With that being said...Im still stuck buying them...damn FCP/SHAKE/etc. I wouldnt buy an IPOD though-- ;)

They have been rated best for the past 5 years, I don't know any company that's that easy to deal with. I think they are great.

Mmm, I've never had any problems. I have a local shop here in Iowa and whenever I've had problems I take it down there and they fix it no hassles.

Are you guys dealing directly with Apple? I've had a couple power supplies go bad, a hard drive crap out and a couple other things over the years. I take it in to my local shop and no problems. They even did things like replaced the PRAM battery etc when I brought it in for a bad hard drive just because it was getting near the end of the warranty.
Great bunch of guys.

that's what you get for spending all your cash on a proprietory system backed by an evil monopoly.

Are you talking about MACK warranties?

Never actually acted on one, but I hear that they are a total pain.

If you're talking about MAC as in Apple warranties, i've never had any problems. I had a $800 repair on one recently and it was no big deal. Didn't cost me a dime and was no hastle.

I thought that was Microsoft...

ah. but you see Microsoft doesn't put chips in their computers thereby banning anyone who doesn't buy their proprietory system from running their software. Ever wonder why noone is able to run Mac OS on a PC? it's because Mr. Jobbs has put a chip in his macs and unless you have that chip, you can't run the software. that's monopolization on a level that borders on illegality.

it also explains why everything always works "perfectly" on a mac. you know, that claim that with a PC you have to download the latest drivers etc? well, that's because PC operating systems support millions of hardware components while the Mac OS only supports the proprietory stuff that comes straight from the factory.

mac is the very definition of an opressive monopoly. once you're in you can never get out. what bothers me is that noone is complaining. all the stuff people say about Microsoft also applies to Mac only with the mac the monopoly is total.

the weirdest thing is that there is something fundamentaly unamerican about the whole monopoly issue and yet Macs are better sellers in the US than anywhere else. whatever happened to free markets and fair competition?

No one is forcing you to use a Mac...

No it's not. That's like saying its illegal for ferrari to make it impossible for you to take the engine out of a modena and install it in a ford. Its their own software, they can do what they want with it. Its when they FORCE you to use it with no alternatives (ie microsoft bundling all their crap with other manufacturer's hardware). Apple software works with Apple hardware. Plain & Simple.

I can see this thread going downhill quickly with the big monopoly accusations.

i like to buy all the train stations first. then i run around with the iron yelling Ringo quotes.

too obscure?

It has always been that way (as far as I [a non-Mac person] know.

Way back when, there was a big hoorawr about people putting Mac ROMs in their Atari STs to emulate a Mac.

Apple lost the lawsuit, iirc.

Well I'll let everyone in on a little secret. They are really annoying about not fixing things when they are broken... but I have a way past that.

If you are a big Mac user (Laptop, .Mac, iMac, iPod, whatever) and can afford $99 every year to basically give to Apple, you'll get exeptional service with Apple Procare. Basically if you sign up for this ($99 a year), you can make training sessions (which are pointless) and technical support (the basis of the secret)

If you are having a problem with your (mac, ipod, powerbook) go on the internet, set up an appointment with procare at an applestore, and they'll basically fix anything you have wrong with it- for free.

I have had:

3 Earphone replacements
5 system installations (the computer was buggy, what can i say)
upgrade from ilife 05 to 06
Replacement iPod
Replacement powerbook charger

All for free. They basically just gave them to me right there.

I mean - it's a steal. Literally.

Uh i know you guys are gonna hate me for this, but I got OSX running on one of my PC's
oh and my friends laptop battery died one month out of apple care... yea..
