I figured for my 1000th post I should at least start my own thread instead of always mooching off someone elses.

A thread Callaghan started recently got me thinking... I spend so much time here, and other than our passion for video I don't know too terribly much about a lot of you. For example I didn't know Callaghan was a Cigar puffer (no that's not a euphemism) until he started that cigar thread.

So I'm curious, if you had to list one thing other than video that you enjoy...are good at...or feel passionate about. What would it be?

Or better yet, if you couldn't pursue your video work...what would you do instead?



Me, I like to cook.
So here's the "1000th post" dinner I made tonight:

Butternut squash gnocchi with sausage & a balsamic butter sauce.

The first time I made it was a disaster...but tonight the stars aligned and it was one of the best meals I've ever made.

And hey, just because I cook doesn't mean I'm going to see Brokeback Mountain.
Let's make that clear right now.
 
Hiking.

In fact, March 28th I'm leaving to go hike the Appalachian trail. In case none of you know what the "AT" is, its a 2,165 mile trail which starts in Georgia and ends in Maine. Its a 6 month trip and I've always wanted to do it so I'm gunna give it a try.

No DVXuser for 6 months... damn.

EDIT: I suck at cooking. I tried making rice krispie treats the other night. Bad Idea.
 
Congratulations on your 1,000th post! I remember way back when you were a mere lad of 20 and 50 posts. And look at you now, cooking meals for yourself. You've grown own so fast. Soon you won't need us any more. It will be an empty nest around here. :(
 
I also like to cook. While I have cooked full meals, my favorite are appetizers and desserts. I have done some fancy work with chocolate - I made bowls out of chocolate and filled them with mousse (so you can eat the bowl along with the mousse) and one year for valentine's day I made chocolate roses for my wife.
 
The bowl was chocolate? Brilliant!!! Why don't they always do that? When you're at any restaurant and you're finished eating, the waiter could come by and tell you, "If you want some desert may I suggest your soup bowl or your plate. ....Oh, and for the kids, all the spoons are lolipops."

Hmm Luis, interesting question.

I think if you were to ask around here, there would be some (who is he referring to you ask...) who would give you a pretty good idea of what I could do.....LOL

Outside of filmmaking...let's see here...every one should have at least two vices, which is why I have a half dozen. The true loves of my life, though, are motion pictures and puros.

When not surfing DVXuser or filming, I am usually riding my bike or doing something outdoors. I also like to target shoot on occasion...I don't like to cook, but I deffinetly like to eat....
 
I have no skills of any kind....no really special ones anyway..

well.....I do a mean checkout at target.
 
you think its hard to deal with that place as a customer?

try dealing with it as an employee!....haha

I don't know how you handle it, but that's a skill.

Besides the questions wasn't about skill necessarily...but what would you be doing if you couldn't pursue your video work...what would you pursue instead?

Oh..haha....i misread things quite well.....

i'd probably be a.........writer of some kind....i enjoy that from time to time.

congrats on your 1000th post too by the way.
 
Comic Books. What can I say? I never grew up. Set me down with a year's worth of back issues of Batman or Justice League and leave me alone. :)
 
Congrats on reaching 1000!

I drink and I do martial arts. Often at the same time. I almost never need to use anything I know outside of the bar, anyway. Might as well practice drunk.
 
One of my favorite things to do is to be with my wife and kids. I married over my head, and the kids are the best.

Carpentry, and scholarly study.

Movies.

Books.

Course, none of that makes any money, but hey, money can't buy me food. . . . er, something.
