White balance card?

Hey friends ,

I used to use a sheet of paper for white balance but want to get an accurate card. I have a matte box from indisystem and was wondering if theres a speacial card that slips in the matte box? or just zoom into the card like i used to do? I saw in my bh photo book that they have actual lenses.

Whats the way to go when working with a 35mm adapter. Im thinking that an accurate card is the way to go but i want to make sure and ask you guys before i order tomarro.

Also , can i get a link to what card you recommend.

thanks,
Chris

ExpoDisc .. they're great especially for WB mixed lighting, they just clip on/off and I use mine on set as a short time lens cap. When I got mine 2yrs ago there were 2 available neutral and warm, I ended up with both but I recommend you start with only the neutral then see if you need any of the others.

Somewhere I read you should get a large diameter one to cover all your lens, but you'd most likely have to remove your lens hood on most vid cams.

Avoid the cheap Ebay ones like the plague what ever you do.

Yessiree buy once cry once. That one wasn't available 2yrs ago .. don't get the 52mm circular version then buy a cam with an 82mm front .. although you could probably sell it for about $10 less than you paid.

I'm actually also looking for something like that, thanks! I've used a totaly white paper all the time, but should you get a 18% greycard? What the biggest difference between a white and a greycard?

Hi the DOF guides are more for stills/DSLR cams .. be useful if you get a Pana AF100 with interchangeable lens and shoot movies.

Cheers.

It's good to look up Wikipedia for just about anything, it gets better every day. For video work a perfect white balance setting is all you need, it'll save hours of work in post. I shoot in an aircraft restoration workshop and I'd be lost without an ExpoDisc neutral .. the WB can radically change with every shot.

Hey Baddgsx .. so you got the bigger flat model? how are you finding it? Any operational problems like having to remove the lens hood to use it?

The reason I ask is, I bought the Canon WD-H72 wide angle convertor and it has a front diameter of 10cms, nearly 5", so my 72mm Expodiscs won't work.

Cheers.
