Which way do you fit your your LEX?

Hi,

I was out shooting yesterday and i had a bit of trouble threading my LEX onto the HVX. Do you guys ever touch the allan keys as your threading it on and it feels awkward? Anyway i found taking the spinning ring off the LEX, threading it onto the HVX, then just sliding the LEX into the hole on the spinner REALLY easy.

Is that how you guys attach it, or as a whole unit?

P.S I'm gonna feel like a real tool if everyone says of course you take the ring off and thread it on first...LOL :)

Regards,

Ben

That's how I do it too. I'm still waiting for that "how-to" video tutorial from LetusDirect I saw posted on one of these threads that say they're "working" on one.

So you take the ring off? LOL. Reading the instructions it's sounds like you do it as a whole. I guess either work hey....he he

I only adjusted the ring the first time then put the whole thing on at once after that. I set it up so the right amount of tightness would be achieved at the point where the image was squared to the frame. So now I just gently firm it up into square through the monitor and I'm good to go.

Threading the whole unit on is finicky though. Try standing the camera up on its back end, tilted away from you somewhat, held between your thighs while you're sitting down. Put the LEX in place, then *slowly* start turning it while carefully checking to make sure that it's threaded evenly (level). Once it's started it's pretty easy.

Hi Ted,

I feel like an idiot asking this but what do you mean you adjusted the ring? How does the spinning piece have any bearing on how straight the square is?
( I must be missing something...LOL )

Sorry for the confusing wording. Here's what I did initially:

1) Screw the spacer ring to the HVX separately
2) Attach the LEX to the spacer, center it roughly and and tighten the allen screws
3) Screw in the assembly more, until a nice degree of firmness was achieved
4) Zoom out to where the adapter's frame is clearly visible within the camera's frame
5) Loosen the allen screws and turn the adapter body until the frames are square to each other
6) Tighten the allen screws

Step 5 is what I was referring to earlier. So I should have said "adjusted the adapter", not "adjusted the ring", even though the ring screws are what you loosen to do it.

Make sense now?

Hi Ted,

Yeah i understand what you're saying it's just when you turn the body of the adapter the bracket for the rods also turns right? The only way i can see how you can get any adjusted from rotating the body would be if you weren't using rods... Have i completely confused you... LOL.

Regards,

Ben

I use the Letus rods and don't attach the adapter to the riser (using the thumbscrew included with the rods) until the adapter's been levelled. The riser's already fixed in the right spot though, so it's just a matter of putting in the screw at that point. The camera is also not tightened onto the Letus plate until then

: )
