im trying to put together a computer for around $500 and pretty much have all the parts figured out except the video card.

which card will let me:

-edit native gh2 (avchd 1080p) footage seamlessly
-be silent (ideally no fan but a really quiet fan is ok)
-not break the bank

the rest of my budget will go towards a NLE which i am not sure of which it will be (most likely sony vegas unless it cannot handle native gh2 avchd)

thanx

I've ordered this card...

http://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Techno...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1297236111&sr=1-16

I ordered mine from CircuitCity.com, but they don't have any more. Same price at Amazon. What Amazon doesn't tell you is Galaxy currently has a $20 rebate on this card, bringing the price down to just $15. This particular version of the GeForce 210 does have a fan, but Amazon has other versions of the same card with no fan, just a huge heat sink.

Should receive mine tomorrow (Wednesday). I'm putting it into an HP m7160n running Windows XP and Sony Vegas Pro 8.0c, with 3GB of RAM. I've been editing HD (AVCHD from a Panasonic HMC40 as well as HD footage from a Sony EX-1) using the integrated video that is built onto the motherboard, without any major problems. I'm hopeful the addition of this card will make things run even smoother.

Hope that helps.

Depend on the editing system being used. If your not editing with a full screen preview most cards will have no problem. if you want a full screen preview you should probably go with a workstation card. Avid's min is the fx570. Fast gaming cards do well to though. I have dual gtx470's in my gaming system and it does full screen hd editing just fine. Honestly i would not recomend a gfx card under 200 bucks if your planning on doing full screen preview.
