Which Tutorial for Sony Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum?

I'm new to this forum.

My Question

I recently purchased the Sony Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum. While this product comes with built-in mini-tutorials, I want to purchase separate tutorials that walk me through the various processes for creating videos and burning DVDs. I'm a newbie with experience limited to creating a few video clips on WMM2 (don't laugh...we all gotta start somewhere) and making a few DVDs on Sonic's MyDVD version 6.

Which two or three DVD tutorials would you recommend I purchase (in sequential order...basic to more technical).

I know some of you guys author tutorials and will be biased...but give it your best shot (smile).

My environment

I've started creating weekly DVDs of worship services at my church. I'm using a Panasonic AG-DVX100B and download the camera's video/audio output to my computer via firewire. The DVD output from Sonic's MyDVD has a slight but noticeable lag (audio before video) and I'm not impressed with the video quality.
:badputer:

I have downloaded the the camera's video/audio (via RCA and S-Video cables) to a JVC DR-MH30S DVR. It creates a good quality video with no audio lag in the DVD....but I can't put any bells and whistles in the DVD menu's and it's not real user friendly when trying to edit stuff out and for creating transitions. I'll soon begin using an Edirol video mixer with additional video inputs from a couple of PTZ cameras...but that scenario is a subject for a different post.

Thanks for your time.

I work at VASST so I guess I’m one of the biased ones ;-) but we have a brand new Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Training DVD. I don’t know of any others. There are lots of training DVD’s for the pro version of Vegas but not the Movie Studio version that you have.

You surely are not talking about the DVX100 ?

As the Vegas Pitbull indicated, I'm downloading the DVX100B footage into MyDVD. Based on the little I've read, the DVX100 is the best of the best for the price point, however. the dude using the camera ain't too swift.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

JohnnyRoy...after I purchase/use the video you suggested, should I also get the Instant Vegas Movie Studio +DVD (Vasst Instant) (Paperback)?

Would the book compliment the video with additional bits and pieces of info?

I attempted to capture footage from the DVX into SVMS tonight but I apparently went yee when I shoulda went haw...wasted 45 minutes.
I'll ask my questions about that in a different post.

Thanks for the feedback.

The book was written before Vegas Movie Studio 6 (or Platinum) was out. It is based on Movie Studio 5 so some (just a few) of the interfaces have changed and, of course, none of the new features of VMS 6 are covered. It is still good as general reference for those times when you don’t want to put in the DVD and start searching for chapters. You can just flip open the book and quickly remember how something is done. Topics like keyframing, envelopes, masking, the “cops” look, and other tips and tricks, are reusable knowledge that doesn’t depend on any particular version of VMS. So a lot of it is very relevant.

The Instant Vegas Movie Studio+DVD book also covers using ACID Music Studio for making music to go along with your video which is not on the DVD. So the book does cover some different material as well. If you bought the Platinum version of VMS and got ACID XMC with it, this will be of interest to you.

Personally, I like having both books and DVD’s because there are times I just want to look something up and books are great for that, but other times when I just have to see how something is done, and nothing beats a DVD for explaining while doing. (we’re not talking major investments here, the book is only $15)

Thanks, my friend. I have the same mindset. I did get the platinum version with ACID.

So...I have a budget of $500...I'll spend $49+ and $15+...what other kind of training would you guys suggest?

For example, are there any DVD/online training materials recommended in this forum for using DVX100B, ACID or other Sony audio apps?

What kind of image editing programs do you guys use?

Thanks to all who took the time to read this far.
