Which To Use - FCP 7 or CS5 MC?

(note: I am posting in the Premiere and FCP forums)...

Hi y'all. I have been using FCP for about 3 years now and am very familiar with it. However, I was recently hired as an editor, and they use both FCP and CS5. I installed the CS5 Master Collection on my laptop, and I really haven't had time to learn it, besides PS and DW, which I already use.

In your opinions, should I begin to use Premiere? I am editing DSLR and DVCPRO HD footage, and I know both systems can handle both of those well.

Workflows for AVCHD and P2 are superior in PP (no transcoding, access to P2 metadata & user clip names), PP obviously has much better integration with the rest of the Adobe suite, but as to which should you use -- that's a personal preference.

You may want to look at the new CS 5.5, which offers some interesting new features, especially for dual-system sound (which is often the case when using a DSLR).

Plus, with a simple click you can change the default PP keyboard shortcuts to the default FCP shortcuts, which makes the transitions even easier.

The new FCP is being announcement literally 40 minutes after I post this... BUT:

Use Premiere if:
You are a 1 man band that captures/edits/delivered directly to the client.

Use FCP7 if:
You need to integrate your edit workflow with a studio or other editor who happens to use FCP. It's over all slower than CS5, but is indeed more stable when dealing with larger projects of 100GB and up of content -- although even FCP will start crashing when your projects reach 90MB or so in size (results vary per machine).

Use AVID if:
You deal mainly with television clients and need the most industrial workflow possible, often dealing with big big projects such as reality TV shows, or really any project that can grow to thousands of hours of footage. AVID is occasionally faster than FCP in workflow, but definitely not faster than CS5. It's strength (or priority, per se) is not speed, but speed only second to solid media management.
