Which sigma to pick

I 'm thinking about buying one of the following to use with a nikon 35mm adapter:

sigma 20mm f1.8 (about 300€)
sigma 24mm f1.8 (about 280€)
sigma 28mm f1.8 (about 200€)
sigma 30mm f1.4 (about 300€)

Has anyone used these? I really like the fact that the 30mm is f1.4...but it's no longer a wide angle. I have used the 28mm on the past and I really like it. The 20mm is also very appealing for some "epic framing". The 24mm is basically out of the game since I already have a 24-70mm f2.8.

I would love to see some footage if possible.

the 30mm f1.4 is for digital cameras only, it doesn't have an aperture ring and you'll have to zoom in to get rid of the vinyetting, so it'll end up being a 45-50mm eq.
i'm planning on getting the 20mm myself. i looked at it in the shop and it seems nice. very very very wide. good for elevators or "lifts". the focus throw is a little short but i didn't have any trouble hitting marks. infinity is at 2 meters i think.

my set will be
20mm 1.8
35mm 1.4
50mm 1.4
85mm 1.4

Thanks, man. I had no idea the 30mm didn't have an aperture ring. This leaves me very inclined to go with the 20mm.

rafa,

I just bought nikon primes and a sigma zoom yesterday for my diy mini35. It might interest you that i got a sigma EX 20-40mm f2.8 DG aspherical. works great cuz its fullframe and constant f2.8 with aperture ring. wide last element so it doesnt vignette in an adapter.

Cool. I actually have the sigma 24-70mm constant 2.8 which is also great with the brevis35.

Here's a nice website where there's a lot of reviews tha tI found useful while trying to decide what kind of primes I'd sue on my LetusXL.

http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/index.html

The Sigma 20mm and 30mm are reviewed there in the Canon EOS section. They don't seem that sharp according to the reviews, but at the price point they beat many others out there. I found though that some of the older Nikkor lenses seem to get sharper details and better edge to edge sharpness than most new lenses.

What's nice is that you can also compare the lenses you currently own VS what you're planning to buy, it can help a lot to judge if the prime you're looking for is worth it! Of course, a camcorder isn't the same as a digital SLR, but there isn't THAT much of a difference in technologies, and you can get a pretty good idea of the overall quality of a prime.

Sigma 20mm 1.8 is really the softest 20mm lens out there, almost like lensbaby to exaggerate a bit, improves greatly when closed down a bit.
Modern autofocus lenses actually aren´t that great for manual focusing as the focusing rings doesn`t turn that much as on older full MF lenses. I`ve used those Sigma primes on 35mm DOF adaptor and it really was a pain.
Oh, I just got my hands on 17mm 3.5 MF prime, what a view...

So, what would you advise? 20mm is probably as wide as you can go without major distortion, so I'd like a 20mm...of course, if you have tried it and you say it sucks that is not a good sign. What other options would you recomend for edge to edge sharpness?

i slipped on my adapter the sigma 15 to 30 mm constant f3.5 from our still photo dept. its really dramatic with no barrel distortion. but there is a very light vignette and soft corners on the outside of the TV safe frame area. usable in my opinion under desperate situations.

you can zoom in a bit to 17mm to remove soft edge. Still very wide.
