Which Script Doctor?

USLatin

I can't find a very good thread I read before which talked about a few of the different script doctor services/sites out there.

I am trying to find the one that at the moment seemed like the best choice. If I saw the page I'd know if it is the one.

Could I get some links/names please?

Here are the links posted by everyone so far:

Hummm... no... it wasn't an individual, or at least I didn't know their name, and ScriptShark doesn't look like it.

Thanks though!

go over to donedealpro.com as there are a million threads on people who've had experiences with diff peeps and they've posted their reviews.

I would personally try and build up a group of folks who you can trade notes with. that takes work within itself tho.

What EJ said - find some other people and swap scripts with them. You'll learn as much from reading their scripts as from their feedback on your script. Costs you nothing.

I went back and included Mr Martell on my list. Maybe he's up for something if it's sweet enough.

Ok, so I posted them on the first post. Thanks 10 for the long list. Unfortunately none of those were the one I had looked up a long time ago.

Not giving up so just yet, I hope someone might post the link to it. However, if I run out of time I'll take a close look at all of these. Thank you!

I will not read your script for money. Sorry.

Err... ok... but I can't remember asking you to...?

That confusion aside, I would love to have a network of people I trust and respect. I would enjoy being able to collaborate with them on their scripts and would consider it an honor and couldn't see anything better than that. However, I wouldn't mind paying someone to read it, and I don't see anything wrong with it.

I am not sure what you meant, but if you just want me to take down the link to your site from the first post, which was provided by 10's (your partner?) then say that.

Roberto, I think the difficulty is finding someone you can trust because they have great knowledge and experience in this area. Competence is what's required.

I once had a screenwriters group and we met once a month. It was OK except that I found very little real help from them over the time we met. Finding someone that will actually benefit you and help improve your writing can be a difficult journey. Keep trying!

If one has money to burn I would recommend trying a pro-script-doctor because they focus on screenwriting in their daily work life and many of them actually have some insight and advice that can improve one's writing. For me, Truby's review of films pretty much agrees with my assessment most of the time, so for me, he would be my pick for a property in development and heading for production.

I have no connection with Martell. He obviously doesn't hire out for this type of thing.

Indeed! I don't have money to burn but I am looking for some solid, and proven, advice. I hoping I can afford me some o' dat! :)

Oh, I misunderstood.

One of the problems with some screenwriters, when it comes to critiquing your work, is they can only see how THEY would have done things. Some also have ego problems and will just tear your work down, belittling you in the process. And still others are much too competitive to be able to impartially judge the work of another.

So it definitely is hard to find someone who can truly collaborate with you.

Personally, I'm the best script doctor I know. :D

I wouldn't want to have you do it and have you try to make me turn it into a script about a cop that stops a kid and acts like an arse... It would take a lot of work. :)

I am still looking guys if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you!

I'm more than familiar with that kind of criticism. When the first thing a person says after reading your script is, "This is good, but I would've tried...", you know you're in for a long day.

I just want to make it clear that I do not do script consulting or read scripts for money. Or even sex or drugs - but I have read scripts from really hot women because I thought it might lead to sex, only the scripts sucked and they did not.

I will read a script for a fee for a *producer*, but that's different. It's development for hire. I think I've done that twice in 20 years. And, that's kind of a ploy to get some producer doors open for me.

If you send me a script and a check, I'm just going to send it back to you... and then go back to work on my script.
