Which scanner?

I am looking to purchase a new, flatbed scanner. I want it to work on a mac, good enough to include scanned photos and documents into a FCP-edited documentary as well as home use.

Anyone have any suggestions? I am looking to spend about $300-$600.

Thanks and Happy Holidays! Maybe all of your projects get completed in the New Year!

Honestly, scanners are so good these days, I would think you could spend well under $100 and get something which is superb for just about any use.

For example:

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-CanoScan-LiDE110-Scanner-4507B002/dp/B003VQR1UC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1FSRIPXX0RLJ3&colid=3UPMCA4WU08SB

That's 2400 DPI for under $60! I had an earlier model in the same line, and it was great.

At that resolution, a 35mm still negative (note that particular scanner doesn't have the negative scanning attachment) would scan to 2267 x 3401 pixels, which is more than enough for an HD movie, even with cropping. Obviously anything larger (prints, documents, etc.) will work at much lower resolutions.

If you want to scan things larger than letter / A4 size, then you'll need something different; and if you want to scan a bunch of slides or negatives, then look for a scanner with the appropriate attachments. Otherwise, I think something like that should work for you.
