Okay, a loaded question for you guys. I'm doing a tiny bit research about what working professionals use to edit their footage these days as the effects of Apple's move to FCPX affect a sector of the industry.

I already posted this on the Reduser forum and got very insightful results.

What NLE do you use (or are in the process of transitioning to) for editing your footage and why?

Running MC6, but only because I started with Xpress DV 4.5 which I could afford, and upgraded to Xpress Pro then MC as Avid EOL'd each version. Xpress Pro to MC for £300 or so was a no-brainer.

But I'm not a Pro, just a very serious hobyist, no way could I afford, let alone justify, MC from scratch, probably more like Sony Vegas, as I'm PC which rules out FCP, And I hate Adobe.

I've been using Vegas for the last 10 years. It's audio abilities are unmatched. However, I'm looking at switching to CS 6 since Vegas hasn't updated their interface in a whie

Been playing with the Lightworks free beta software a bit and like it. Looking forward to the release version, free also or $60/yr subscription for high end pro codecs and support. It is a mature and very powerful NLE well suited to long form collaborative projects but there is a significant learning curve. The user guide is 308 pages.

Definitely going to subscribe to the Adobe Creative Cloud too.
