Which Monitors?

Buying desk top monitors for the new editing system and not quite sure what to get. I'm curious about what people have in the way of desk top monitor brands, screen size, wide screen or standard, etc.
The widescreens seem ideal for editing real estate but do they present stretched images for normal office applications or web viewing?
Any particular brands to steer clear of?
Any reason to use CRTs over LCDs?
Right now considering 19" Samsung LCDs based upon NewEgg reviews but I dont have any idea what people are using and are happy or disappointed with in the video editing dept.
Any feedback suggestions greatly appreciated.

I bought a pair of Samsung 931b's a few months ago. For me, they hit the sweetspot between price, size, resolution and good reviews. They're not widescreen, and while at times I've wondered if that might be worth considering, I've had no regrets so far. If anything, I might mount a widescreen TV above them as a preview monitor/TV/bonus office cool factor.

I will say this, and it's been said by many before me, once you go to dual screens there's no going back.

Dell usually has some great deals on LCDs, and their panels tend to be very good quality. For price/performance, they tend to beat out other manufacturers+vendors. But, you just have to wait around till one of their deals/sales come around.

Check hot deals sites for your country...
gotapex.com
fatwallet.com
etc. etc.

Read the user forums to see what real users say about the products and how good the deal is.

No. The image is not stretched at all. Rather, just this of the two monitors as combined into a single giant monitor. You should be able to set things like the windows taskbar to stay confined to a single monitor. Programs can maximize to a single monitor, not both. I've found Ultramon (shareware) to be a helpful utility for dual monitors, and I map F1 to moving apps to the other monitor. This helps me multitask, since I can have two programs up at once.

Hi Glen > Im getting a system with dual monitor out on the video card. I want to know if u can set up vegas to spread out over both monitors and yet save layouts in 2 monitor choice. Eg. all cc tools on the right and preview full on the left monitor. Save this as layout 1. Then another layout like this etc. Will vegas memorize the layouts and put them out to each correct monitor as was when saved ? Also if you grab a tool window. Say cc tools and drag it into the next monitor it just jumps into the next monitor ?

Oh thanks David, sorry to go offtopic here. But i think i really need some help on working with hdv in Vegas (sony z1u camera). The post is in the first few rows today. Can you please check it out and see if you have something to say ?

try nuetronexpress they have great deals on samsung and other monitors. 19 inch is nice but you dont really need them because no matter what editng software you use the windows will be the same size so 17 inchers work just as well. I have 2 samsung 740bx there great they are 1000.1 contrast ratio and 5 ms and they are only 165 a pop
