HDSLR: Which Monitor of GH5s?

I bought a GH5s back in 2019 but due to illness only got to use it for a short while & never got to purchase the Atomos monitor I rather liked.
5 years later....what would be my best options now. Bright, pref 4k but 2k is fine, able to employ LUTS, decent battery life etc.
Maybe a recorder/monitor?

Also, what would be my options for more recent profiles & LUTs etc.
I'm a quick study with a fair amount of previous video experience from my Canon days and keen to get back up to speed.

There are a lot of options and prices. If you don't need it to record you could save a lot money and go with Chinese brand. Is it as durable as Atomos no but image quality and brightness gap has closed. I've got a Feelworld 6" $130 takes luts, touch screen, etc but no record.

Then you got to decide about size. For tripod work I prefer 7" monitor but run and gun on camera 5". You need to price things out figure out how much you want to spend.

Thinking about it more as suggested, I don't really need a recorder and 5", 6"or 7" would be fine by me.
I'm not a 'heavy handler' or shooting in tough environments - mainly parks, gardens, interviews & wildlife and all under tight control - so build quality doesn't have to be industrial spec, just solid.
What is the model of the Feelworld you use?

From the environments you're describing it seems like a good majority are outdoors. If I was mostly shooting outdoors my primary concern would be a monitor that is bright enough to compete with sunlight. Nothing is more worthless than a monitor that you can't even see.

That being said, I think a minimum of 1500 nits is where you should start, and even brighter would be better, since my SmallHD 702 Touch still needs a sunhood at times in direct sunlight to get a good read on the image.
 
Good points to consider. I have used a sun shade before now but they are less than ideal. Nice and bright would be optimum.
With brightness comes power requirements and I presume the trusty Sony NP is still the standard battery fitting for most of the Chinese monitors?
I've seen a few crazy high nit ratings (2600!!) on some of the budget monitors so having trouble with that - would really like to have recommendations from actual users.
 
I bought a FEELWORLD F5 PRO V4 6" I use it on my Sony A74. It's incredibly light. The size is small for a 6" because unlike Atomos the screen comes closer to the edge. Runs off Sony NPF batteries. I use the small or medium size depending on whether I'm running continuous for a long time. Shot a 1.5hr musical on the medium and still had 60% left. Of course shooting in daylight you'll be using max out brightness so battery will last half as long.

But if you prefer Atomos the 5" Shinobi is a good option too. $300

Atomos came out with something that allows your phone to be used as a monitor. I don't know much about it but I prefer to keep my phone separate from my video work.

You certainly get a lot for your money with that model. Seems Feelworld are the market leaders outside the major brands.
 
all the monitors Ive bought in the last deacde are feelworld

im not sure the 'brand' monitors are any better.

in fact i dont sonsider atomos/smallHD as brands as they were just startups lashing to gether chinese components.

probably components from the same factory.

As for 4k.. are there any monitors that display 4000 pixels - I think not. they just are '4k' if a 4k signal doesnt crash them.
 
The FEELWORLD LUT7 is looking like a decent choice to me right now.

Ebay UK has a 'Kit' version available right now which includes an NP battery & charger along with a case, tilt arm & cable for £239 delivered here in the UK.
One caveat though - description spec states it as Secam and UK is PAL....hmmmn.
However, does this make any difference or raise any issues given the 1080p HDMI output from GH5s and the use of a LUT?
 
The OSEE T5+ & T7, Lilliput H7, and PORTKEYS LH5P II all look like viable options.

I have a FeelWorld LUT7; here's my list of Cons:
DC input & passthrough ports are too close to the bottom 1/4"-20 tripod thread to be used (I might take mine apart and reroute the DC ports to the SDI blanks).
Thin plastic body
Reflective screen
Fingerprint magnet
Not sunshade option

P.S. I believe that ANDYCINE is the same as FeelWorld.
 
I guess it doesnt matter but safe to find another supplier?
I got mine on amazon. There still ahops in the uk like proav - they might have advice/guarentees or just be overpriced!
 
Thanks MM. I'm encouraged by your use of Feelworld in a professional context.
Upon reflection, although 7" would be handy it would be quite a handful when out in the real world.
LUT5 5.5 Inch DSLR Field Video 3000nits at £174 in UK and seems to tick my boxes for a more concise option.

I can post the link (if ok?) if anyone wants to take a look & advise.
Its stated as 3000 nits and with the same characteristics as its bigger brothers.
Does anyone have experience of this item.
 
I have a 5in smallHD monitor (2015?..nearly falling apart cst $1000 not worth it) and a (2022) 7in fleelwrold.

For a solo operator I would select the smaller size.

my feelworld is not ideal on handheld rigs

Really I bought it because when my smallHD breaks Ill be blind and lose the money from the shoot.

From scratch Id select a 5in from any affordable brands.

As it happens Im used to viewing log and dont use any zebraa luts or other stuff. just the pic and waveform (which my cameras generat)

What is your opinion of the false colors? With a couple of shades of grey above and below 50 IRE, I find it hard to read.
 
Yah, it's not the best layout, but at least it includes an IRE scale, which is more than I can say for my old Lilliput 664. I often expose for the highlights or ETTR, so its not really a problem, and I can open and close the iris a bit to get my bearings or use zebras.

I think Small HD has more false color options, but you really pay a premium.
 
I opted for the FeelWorld LUT5 - its just right for me.
Light.
Bright.
Compact.
Not overly hungry for battery power - a cheapo NP F550 lasted 110 mins on test.
Good features & spec.
Build quality is solid enough.
Colours seem pretty good right out of the box.
Only wish the touch screen controlled the GH5s, but at the price I paid {approx £180 delivered}......

One issue: when I want to review my shots I hit green Play hard button on the camera body - at that point the camera lcd shuts off, however the start playback soft button is on that lcd.....and of course the Ext monitor touch screen cannot operate it! So I have to switch the Ext monitor Off, thus allowing the camera LCD to operate again so as to touch the soft Playback button - but of course no playback then on the Ext monitor...
Am I missing something here?
 
I don't have a GH5S, but every other Panasonic camera I have (GH5, GH6, GX8) all can control playback from the physical dial on the back of the camera. The top of the dial is "play," the bottom of the dial is "stop/pause," and left/right are their respective rew/FF. I would be surprised if the GH5S did not have that capability.
 
Yes GH5S is just like all the other Panasonic's I had a GH5 , now GH5S and GH6. Button on the GH6 is just white.
