Curious which mic(s) everyone is getting decent results with on the tascam dr60d? I have a rode ntg2 which does well but an upgraded mic should do even better.
The Rode is OK.
For indoors an Audio Technica AT4053b is killer. Really good. About $500. That's definitely going to give you better sound.
There's also the Audix SCX1/HC. That's about $100 less than the Audio Technica.
Shotguns are more appropriate for outdoor audio.
The Rode NTG1 or 2 have a very low output level, this means the preamps in recorders in mixers or recorders need to work VERY hard to get a good signal level.... On lower cost recorders often have preamps generate a lot of noise when the level is pushed.
