WHICH MATTE BOX TO GET?

Hey guys,
I'm in the process of getting a new matte box, but i'm torn between two. Im not really comparing the prices of each, I just want to get the better functioning, more applicable and useful box.

1) Chrosziel 411-53PK

2) Century Precision Optics DSMB44KTW

I realize the chrosziel is out of stock (Using links for reference)
...Any ideas or suggestions on either of these Boxes??

Re: WHICH MATTE BOX TO GET?

i have had three different matte boxes...

one question narrows it down greatly...

are you going to use an anamorphic lens?

if so then i think the chrosziel is the only real choice.

i have the chrosziel, it is way too overpriced but is very nice.

i would stay away from the matteblox stuff. it moves around and it just isn't worth it...been there, done that.

if you don't ever need the anamorphic option then the best thing out there is the formatt matte box. i had one of those and it was great. not as elegant a design or build as the chrosziel, but you can't beat it for the money.

i have looked at that "lesser" chrosziel before and it looks nice but for the rather substantial price savings on the formatt over that i would go with the formatt.

i sold the formatt i had and i keep wishing i saved it for when i get a second dvx.

i keep thinking about getting a second dvx and using squeeze mode instead of getting a second anamorphic lens.

No clue. My guess would be no, but in all honesty, that's just a guess. Call Rush and ask him, EVS carries them as well.

I just got the Formatt FM-500 and it is pretty well done for the price. And you can get a good filter set in extra for even a lower price than the century. Of course if you want to add all the accessories like follow focus, you will need something with the rail system.

its going to be real interesting if they come out with a formatt that does fit the anamorphic lens...

I have the cavison 4x4

over all it is great (you NEED the rods for it though - don't try to simply use the clip on feature)

the only pain about it was some growing pains learning to deal with the rotating filter tray - the frame can get loose and then the tray wants to slide out when you rotate it.
I carry jewelers screw drivers with me so I can tighten it when needed.

thistlebop, the 1.6 will not work with that model out of the box, but i had the mattebox shaved by 1/2 a millimeter and it fits fine. if i remember correctly the 1.6x and the mattebox are both 106mm. it might have even been a 1/4 mm they took off i cant remember . cost $45
