Which Macbook laptop for editing in Premiere CC 14?

I use an iMac 3.4Ghz quad-core i7 w/12GB of RAM at home but am increasingly needing something portable enough to travel with.

Will the 13" 2.5 dual-core i5 w/8GB of RAM be enough to edit native C300 and C100 without much trouble or do I need to step it up to the top of the line 15"?

I just prefer the size of the 13" for traveling but I haven't had a machine w/a non quad-core in forever and I'm no computer expert.

I don't think that Adobe is supporting the IRIS or the HD Graphics 4000 cards on these machines. I had a 13" without a dedicated nVidea card, and ended up selling it without two months of buying it and upgrading to the model at the time with the nVidea Gforce, which is supported by Adobe. I would go check to see if Adobe is supporting those other cards, because for spending more money, you likely will be a lot happier. I know I was! My experience for the Mac at least is that the laptops are not a straight across replacement for the iMac. My iMac is much smoother and faster than my laptop for editing. Both have lots of RAM and fast disk. Your lack of large screen real estate is very limiting quickly, but in the field is just a given. I prefer working on my iMac any day to my laptop. It's not just speed.

As to RAM, the answer is *not likely*. I found for my C100 multicamera projects that 16 was what I needed. I could watch my projects top out at 8GBs and instability is the outcome. I have found that 12GBs is about the top of what my projects take. Your mileage may vary.

If you can raise the money for the 15 I think you would be much happier long run. There may be ways around this, but ultimately if you are a working pro, spend the money as the time you save is worth it!

Maybe someone with more field use of the MB pro could counter my arguement though.

A really good upgrade would be a SSD, really improves the speed. I use Samsung 840 pro's but there are alternatives.

I have a 2010 17" Macbook Pro, i7 2.66 single core with 8MB of ram and I can still do sub-20 minute multicam edits just fine in CC. But I am shooting at a bitrate that's half of yours mind you (AF100, 25 Mb/s).

After having upgraded to a SSD, I can say they are a near-must for editing laptops.

The '14 Macbook Pros all have SSDs do they not?

Actually looks like a SSD is an upgrade option on the 13", all other models feature it standard.

It's kind of eerily quiet in this thread. No mac vs. PC at all.
