Hi there. I'm working for a school and I've got the go-ahead to buy a Power Mac G-5 so that I can do my editing (FCP of course). But I don't know how much G5 I need. It's a school so I can't spend $6000 and get, you know, 2.7Ghz with absolutely every upgrade, but they did authorize me to spend whatever I need to get a system that would be powerful enough to do everything I need it to. So what level should I shoot for? 2Ghz? 2.3GHz? 2.7GHz? And then how much RAM do I really need? Is 1GB enough, or do I need 2, or even 4? What do you guys recommend?

You would be fine with the 2.3, but the upgrades you get from the 2.7 aside from proseesor speed really make it worth it. As for Ram 2GB is a good number, one is a bit slim, just do not buy it or the HDs from apple, you can get better deals. Same goes for monitors, you can ge one or two CRT 19" or 21" monitor and save mucho dollars. Do not forget at least a second HD for content, and if it is for a school, more may be needed.
