Which lens do you have?

I have the following lenses in my quiver:

Nikon 20-35mm/2.8 zoom
Nikon 28-70mm/2.8 zoom
Nikon 80-200mm/2.8 zoom
Voigtlander 58mm/1.4 [very similar to Zeiss 50mm/1.4]

Really depends on the type of films but I generally use the 28-70 zoom the most, the 20-35 and 80-200 about the same and for really low light or extremely shallow DOF, the 58mm/1.4.

Cheers,

Got these Canon FD lenses
24mm/2.8
35mm/2.0
50mm/1.4
85mm/1.8
135mm/2.0 (heavy glass!)
all are nice. Think I could live without 85mm and use 135mm for close-ups (unless there's little room).

Got 35-105mm/3.5 and 80-200mm L/4.0 zooms as well - use them primarily for run and gun, outdoor shooting.

Nikon 28mm/2.8
Nikon 50mm/1.4
Zeiss Flektogon medium format 50mm/4
Zeiss Biometar medium format 80mm/2.8
Zeiss Sonar medium format 120mm/2.8
Zeiss Sonar medium format 180mm/2.8

The medium format lenses are about 80% faster as the numbers make you think.

Since this is the 35mm adapter forum I will limit my list to still photography lenses.
I will trade all that I list below for a nice set of zeiss master primes or cooke S4's. And I'll throw in my car. And my faithful dog.

Nikons: These older nikons do better on the longer focal lengths I think. Perhaps more modern wide angle nikons are better designed than the ones I have but the 24mm wide is OK.

24mm F2.8 AF-D (not so much. I borrow the AI version from a friend.)
28mm F2.8 AF-D (same as above. borrow my friends when I shoot cinema).
35mm F2 AIS - is good
50mm F1.4 AIS (blah Minolta's is better close to wide open.)
85mm F2 AIS
35-80mm F2.8-3.2 Tamron SP Macro - very useful
90mm F2.5 Tamron SP Macro (fantastic)
105mm F2.5 AI (A razor - ouch!)
135mm F2.8 AIS (very sharp)
135mm F3.5 non-ai (soft and nice)

Minolta Rokkors (used only one time on a 35mm adapter. I rent the adapter and they usually come with Nikon mounts not minolta. A shame.)

20mm Tokina F2.8
24mm F2.8 MC Very nice for an old wide
28mm F2.8 MC
50mm F1.4 MC and MD versions - super sharp and lovely contrast
58mm F1.4 PG - interesting focal length
85mm F1.7 MC - very nice.
100mm F2.5 - MC - Ach, it's OK.
135mm F2.8 Rokkor - Wow, super sharp
135mm F3.5 Rokkor - Very small, light and sharp
35-70mm F3.5 constant aperture MD - Not bad for an old zoom. Used outside in sunny day
75mm-150mm F4 - never used
200mm F4 celtic - never used

I really like my minolta set - I intend to buy one of the newer adapters so I don't have to rely on rentals and so that I can get one with a minolta md mount.

D.
