Hello.

Here's a simple poll for which lavalier you would take if you were buying one now.

Thanks. :dankk2:

You forgot the Countryman EMW and B3. Sennheiser is the MKE2, ME2 and ME4. Audio Technica makes a couple of different models, too.

cool poll. it would be nice to have a thread with favourite mixer, shotgun, hyper, lav, wireless. Thats a way cool way to get an idea of what equipment this group likes to use without us killing ourselves over the ol' "is the azden a feature film mic?" story...

ah, in an ideal world. :)

Nice poll. I am surprised that Tram got 2 votes.

I have two I will sell to those guys. 10 years ago it was a good choice but they have just collected dust for the past 5.

Cheers

tram is not a bad mic when it come out of the box but - it does change characteristics very fast because sweat penetrating , the housing have crackles and the cable joint go to hell .

I don't think it's a "bad" mic. For the price you can get much better lavs, IMHO. I am really NOT a fan of the EMW, adequatly average without a solid niche use, but I would choose the EMW over a Tram...and save about a hundred bucks too.

Clearly, people disagree though. :)

LOL, just noticed another vote for the Tram...

Need to get the EMW on that poll list.

Cheers

I had 3 trams... I liked them, but they didn't smoke the Lectro m150... just a little better... I compared the tram to an AT 899 (which probably should have been on this list) and I liked the sound of the 899, but the tram easily had more treble detail... the downside is that treble detail could degenerate into sizzle with certain sounds. Even still I'd have had to flip a coin to decide which way to go... the detail was worth the sizzle risk in my mind. I don't think the tram sounds like a typical lav... in a good way.

Okay but now moving on... I have an MKE2 (red dot) for laving loud sources... and I use it ocassionally... I'd say it's a good sounding lav... but again, I don't know which I'd prefer... the tram or the MKE2... I think the MKE2 sounded better and more FULL... but the wide open character of the tram was still enjoyable.

When I got the B6 I sold all the trams... I think the B6 may not be the best sounding lav you can get... but it sounds better then anything up to that price... and the ability to hide it anywhere is a huge deal to me. If somebody could make a lav that sounded like the COS11 and DPA... and keep it as small as the B6... then all other lav companies would fold.

To my ears the B6 has a very good, full sound, with plenty of detail... it's not the best sounding lav in comparison to the very best... but I think it's of equal sound caliber to the MKE2... and the tram... and it's TINY like you can't imagine.

For me... with MY OWN money... the choice is B6 easily. I'll probably have several of them within a couple months... I'd like to have a white one, and another black one, but hardwired. I won't even shop around for my next lav... I already know it'll be a Countryman.

this thread rocks! for my money, when i do my next upgrade in a couple months, its gonna be two B6's and 2 COS11s. IMHO, they are peers - what the B6 lacks in sound, it makes up for in its size. When shows dont care about seeing the mic I prefer the COS11, but damn, that B6 makes atoms feel fat.

I've been singing the praises of the B6 for some time now. Not only is it a good, solid mic, Countryman is a good company to work with. Really nice folks in there...you should have seen me drooling when I saw the stacks of B6's waiting to be shipped in their front office....

It took them all of 10 minutes to test and rewire a used B6 i recently purchased (okay, have to make you jealous...cost me $120) and it checked out perfectly. I did have to buy a new Countryman pouch for it, but they also threw in new caps and clips and windscreen for free. They are that kind of nice company. ;-) And to top it off, they extended the warranty on the mic.

Okay, okay, I'll stop gushing now. But seriously, the ability to hide that mic in plain sight is one of its strong points. I usually tuck it behind a button outside the shirt. Matt, I would get the flesh colored version, not the white. You can get white caps to put over the tip of the mic (I have them in all the available colors...).

One thing to watch for, and remind the talent: Never should they attempt to remove a B6 that is taped down. That little head could pop off very easily. The thing I usually do is just let them know that it is more than $400 to replace it (I stretch it a bit...) and that usually shocks them into being very careful.

Thanks guys for the votes. :dankk2: I know there should have been more models on that list...Anyway, I think I'm personally going with Sanken COS-11...:)

does anyone know if the cos11 can be rigged for hardwired and wireless use? im just wondering if the "red dot" issue will make a normal cos unusable on wireless. ?
