Re: .which lav mike?

Well, I don't own, but have "whenever I want" access to a Lectrosonics Receiver; UCR190 and a Lectrosonics Transmitter; UM190B. Having no idea what they cost, I looked them up. I'm fortunate .......

Receiver: $1299.00

Transmitter: $659.00

http://www.lentinicommunications.com/items/item560.htm

I don't know about the transmitter, but the receiver is listed at Lectrosonics as discontinued.

I thought that together, they MIGHT be about $1200.00.

I'm going to browse around ebay and see what's there.

Re: .which lav mike?

Lectros are great but if you'd rather not spend that much money, the Sennheiser 100ENG wireless kit is a solid performer at $500, half the price of the lectro (and includes a plug-in wireless transmitter for hand-held and shot-gun mikes).

For the same price, you can also get the Audio-Technica 100 series, or the Sony UWP-C1. The AT and Sony are diversity systems, the Sennheiser is not, but the Senn works well nonetheless.

Re: .which lav mike?

sorry to interapt you in your love to low cost product , but since my bread and butter are comming from my ears , there is no way that you can comper the sound quality between the lectro and ev ,sorry the ev is noicy , short range , bad compander toy , that cost as what it worth .most of the people here working as one man band and depend on their wierless to get the right line . if you have to work alone go for the best you can get
.
even the used 195 (6-7) years lectro have better performers and probably live longer then sen

Re: .which lav mike?

Badmouth the Sennheiser if you wish, but my experience with it in both no-budget narrative and documentary shooting has been quite the opposite of yours, clear sound, good range.

Does it have the range of a pricey Lectro? No, but in all but the most demanding conditions, it's a good performer, and unless you're recording sound for a theatrical release, where you need maximum range, clarity, and signal purity, the Sennheiser and others in its price range do the job well. Of course, if you can afford a Lectro, then go for it. I had to go with the lower-cost option, but I've got no complaints about the sound I'm getting.

As you say, get the best you can, but keep in mind you can make the same argument you use against getting a Sennheiser, against getting a DVX, since the DVX image isn't nearly as good as the image you'd get from an SDX-900 or an HD camera or 35mm film. But that's not going to keep me from shooting with my DVX. There's always going to be something better. Make the best with what you've got. :)

Re: .which lav mike?

the guy asked for under 1000$ lv system and since he market full of used
lectro190,195, 195d, audio rms 2000 non dyvercity which going under the 1000$ all of them is much better solution then the 100 and the 500 (that exacly the same mike)
good range , what is good range for one man band, 5 m?, 20 m,50m
do you cut the football field from side to side , did you try to shoot inside car with working engine without hear tereble companding noice
did you try record some one shouting in the midle of small talk without horrible distortion, the good quality equip recognize only in extrim situations not in nice weding reseption when the only words you wont to here i do ( maybe i wrong but it better to heare it clear thats what they pay you:-)

the argument that i can buy better camera is not argument to get better sound thos who whants to be on the safty side will go with same audio setup on 35 or dvx
just to clarify as lo you are going in your production as better you will keep the standarts of your sound high , you cant affort the mistakes.
esppesially in docomentary world if you dont have it ,you dont

Re: .which lav mike?

I also use the Sennheiser system mentioned above. It works great for me. Obviously, if you can afford the more expensive system mentioned above, go for it. It sounds like Oleg knows what he's talking about. However, don't get the impression that the Sennheiser sounds like junk. It sounds great. I bring some sound/mixing experience to the table and to my semi-pro ears the Sennheiser system works wonderfully.

Re: .which lav mike?

Sennheiser makes good stuff.. I would recommend thier systems at that price point in a hearbeat. I would however suggest a Countryman Lav, if the budget pertains, as it is the biggest increase in sound quality you can get for your buck.

Senheiser just released a really kick ass new system that should be hitting store soon... http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/productdetail.asp?transid=G2-3

I have already pre-ordered mine..

Re: .which lav mike?

Another thumbs up fpr the Senn Evolution series here.

As for Diversity versus non, I am rarely (as in never) out of camera shot of the subject or choice to shoot next to a hydro electric plant. I have had no troubles in a flouro office and get plenty of range in concrete buildings.

One nice feature of this senn unit is they have a pilot tone squelch feature, so if the subject turns off the trans, the receiver o/p goes dead. No more annoying white noise on the wireless channel.

I have chosen to stick with the me2 mic that came with the unit and have been pleasantyly surprised at the quality.

I dont think you can turn away from the years of stage experience senn has put in. In the Non-Diverstiy product price range this is a top contender.
