Hi,
We have been a crash with the Raid 0 and is not a nice experience. We want to improve our system. Which is the best Raid system? It is Raid 10 or 01 as fast as the Raid 0?
We work with PC, premier and it was a internal Raid 0 of 3 hD 500G.
Thanks
Pablo

Hi Axel,
We are editing P2- MXF files and we do mainly documentaries. Now we are a very big one with around 80 minutos finnal product and the total proyect is about 650 Gigas. So we really need good performance to move everything and also a lot of security. We have been advice by the shop we bougth the PC to have a Raid 0 with a backup program so we will have 3 500 disk in Raid 0 and a 1,5 TB disk to copy everynight by backup.
Is it nice or it will better a Raid 10.
Thanks

You can't do RAID 10 with three disks. You'll need at least four. You could do RAID 1 with two but it won't give you enough space for your project.

Redundant RAID configurations (RAID level 1-6, but not 0) provide fault tolerance. That means that if a drive fails you can continue working non-stop. What your shop suggests is not fault tolerance but rather back up. Both have their place. If you can lose a day's work due to drive failure, than the back up workflow can work. It all depends upon what you can live with.

I use raid 0-1 with 3 320g hard drives & works fine.
I'm curious how you configured this. RAID 1 mirroring requires two drives as does RAID 0 striping. To do both at the same time would require a total of four.

Can you please explain your configuration? I cannot figure out how you did this without using disk partitions. I may be old and dim but my five years of working for a RAID manufacturer says this can't be done.

Raid 0-1 = 1 320g HD for operating system & programs only. 2x 320g HD mirrored. 0-1

Not to be confused with 0+1
