Which graphics card with CS4?

Yes, I realize this is a hardware question, but wanted to touch base with some CS4 users for input. I'm researching a computer build and am wondering what graphics cards folks are having the best luck with using CS4 in Vista 64 bit OS?

Have heard mentioin of the Nvidia FX 1800; any other good options?

I was using an 8400GS 512MB on the last build of my NLE before it went all crazy and I had to put it down. CoreAVC played clips with maybe 3% CPU use, because of the CUDA aspect of the hardware. But I also had problems with my desktop windows not updating when they got dragged around... and I'm not sure if the 8400GS didn't cause my problems...

In any case, I switched over to my Radeon 2400 card, and knock on wood, system has been stable so far.

In any case, Premiere CS4 doesn't make any special use of the graphics card, I've tried to force it to use the CUDA, nothing changes. You would probably have to move to a $4,000 Workstation video card and 3rd party drivers to see any change.

It's still up to the CPU to decode the AVCHD data into a format CS4 will work with. Sucks, but it's just the way it is.

GPU acceleration is always "on," so the only way to see the difference is if you try to do the same thing between a Windows machine and a similar-spec Mac. It makes a huge difference with AVCHD, etc. I definitely see it between my Windows and Mac machines.

I use Nvidia FX 1800 and it is a grate graphic card.
My OS: Vista 64

I second this card. Nvidia Quadro FX 1800. I had an 9800GT which was cool
but this card really handles HD footage w/o any problems. Using PP CS4, AE
CS4.

Thanks again for even more much needed system info. If this is getting too far off the DVX user track, understood. Can anyone recommend a good forum specific to computer builds?

I'll chance one more computer question here; Can anyone tell me which chipset drivers I need to set up the Intel Core i7 920 for Vista 64 bit? Visited the Intel site, but not sure whch I need.

Once again, if too far off topic, perhaps a referral to a computer forum.

Always great to get user feedback!
