Which Follow Focus ?

I was looking for a Follow Focus. I hesitate between the Vocas and the Petroff. I give an advantage to the Vocas. It seem realy well done and compact. The FF with the The ZipGear Prime Lens Kit for Nikons lenses from Zacuto and you got a good package. Anyone had the chance to try both of them ?

Thanks guys for your feedback.

robot909, I will take your advice

taormina, interesting because feedback I saw here until now is "it's crap" plastic feel.

DavidChia, Chrosziel is good, very expensive and over rated. How much you asking for your Chrosziel, what condition & shipping from Germany is very expensive.

You've heard the cavision is crap????? I'd love to know where. It's extremely well made and precise. No backlash.

overrated? Chrosziel? when you try it, and you know why you pay it. I have bought so many others ... and they fail me at the most critical point of the shoot. Ask around , there are lots of people using Chrosziel. Ask them for their opinion before buying...it is all solid metal....

The red Rock is now much impoved... slak is gone...(its now the same as a Chrosziel} the only draw back is that its that you can only rack from one side...of course its about 1/3 the cost...

I agree that the Redrock is now slackless, and it works very well with my 50mm Nikon in front of a Brevis adapter, and I would recommend it for this use. (No durability experience--I just received it yesterday.) I have not been able to figure out any way to get it working with the HVX's stock lens AND my Chrosziel mattebox on Zacuto rods because the FF requires raising the rod platform to nearly its max height to get the gear against the HVX lens gear (Size D from Redrock). That puts the camera lens axis way too high for the mattebox. I have a Bebob Foxy (electronic focus control) so I'm not too worried about using the Redrock FF with the stock lens and matte box, but if that's what you've got in mind, proceed with caution -- you can use the FF but not FF+Chrosziel (and perhaps others) mattebox -- at least on Zacuto rods. I don't know how the rod set could make a difference, because as long as the mattebox has no height adjustment, and the FF needs extra height, your lens axis and the mattebox axis will not match up.

EDIT: Please see the later post. This incompatibility was solved by extending the Redrock FF's lateral adjustment, which lets the gears engage without having the gearbox in the way of the camera body. The Redrock FF works well with the HVX stock lens and Chrosziel mattebox.

I don't know about any previous versions, but the latest redrock ff is great. solid and no slack and 600 with three lens gears.

bherr how does the chrosziel mb fit on the rods? does it have a vertical adjuster?

The Cinevate follow focus (coming very, very soon :-) is completely height adjustable, and will work with pretty much any camera or lens fitted with .8 gears. Our lens gears currently available are anodized aluminum, universally adjustable, and very importantly...can rotate freely beyond 360 degrees. Our testing with cinema lenses has shown this to be very important to manage full focus range.

I just got a Chrosziel FF and it work perfectly with my Nikon lens and Zacuto lens gear, except for the 180mm 1:1.4 Ais because the focus ring move forward when you do the focus. I need to find a larger gear for this lens. Anyone has the Nikon 85mm and a solution for this problem.

Hi Kendal - i don't know where that info came from, but there are no shims required to work with the stock HVX lens and the microFollowFocus. The Redrock D gear is the right one for the stock lens
