Which Follow Focus???

Ok, so I can't find a good comparison on Follow Focus rigs for the HVX200, and thought I'd ask.

Petroff
Chroziel
or
Cavision

Don't just say "Chroziel's the best"... I'd like to know why one is better than the other. EVS Says Cavision is better than Chroziel, and other have said Petroff. Why? I'm putting $1500+ into this, and want to make sure I'm getting the best one.

Thanks!!!

I cant help you but I sure can thank you. I was going to buy the chrosziel but only cuz I did not know the other ones existed. I did the research think thanks to you and I found on B&H the Cavision was 800$ cheaper than the Chrosziel so now im going cavision but my question is why the 800$ price difference dont they do the same thing and also by any chance do you think I can use my follow focus with my spiderbrace at the same time?
thanks

Cinetech

Cinetech

I actually meant to list Cinetech -- since THAT was the one EVS recommended. Not Cavision. My mistake. So there are four:

Petroff
Chroziel
Cavision
Cinetech

Indiefocus -- uses friction if I remember correctly. Cool for lower budget, but I am after accuracy -- so I think the gear is probably more so.

If you add info here -- make sure to throw out a price range for the entire get up... that will affect some peoples decision.

Thanks!

Just talked to Tommy at EVS. His input was the following:

Petroff - great Matte box, but poor follow focus.
Chroziel - good follow focus, but not as good as...
Cinetech - Great all-round, has stop clips and even a light. Metal. His recommend.
Cavision - VERY poor. The term used was crap. (Sorry to say) Plastic.

However, he added one more to the pot. He just saw a demo from RED ROCK MICRO that is an exact copy of the Chroziel. He said it felt good, and was as well made... but only costs $350! Told me to look at it on their site. No stop clips, etc... but or that price an incredible deal.

A good quality, low-priced follow focus?! what a concept...:)
I wonder how it compares to the indiefocus... time for a shootout!

The Red Rock Micro was going to be closer to 500$ from what i understood.

Also, anybody know when they will be releasing it? The lauch date was just bumped to sometime in spring... anyone from Red Rock that can share some info?

Bebop Foxi...
It's the only ELECTRONIC follow focus, so you can use to remotely as well as on rails.

I ordered one from 16x9 inc. I'll have it next week and report back.

I have the indie focus. For the price it works pretty good- just under $300- It's accurate and works wonders with all the SLR lenses I use. It has stop clips and is smooth. My only complaint it the focus wheel has some play in it and it also seems to slip if too much friction is set on the friction wheel. I will see how they respond to my complaints and let you guys know. I hope it just needs some tweaking.

I talked to the indifocus guys and they are sending me a new gearbox to fix the issues I had with the first one they sent me. They have be great. Definitely consider this follow focus. It even comes with hard stops.

Cinetech makes a great unit for the money. Carl handmakes each unit himself.

Unlike Chrosziel you don't have to send the unit to Germany if the belt fails inside, and you can do the repair yourself for the price of the belt.

I.

Cinetech stuff is awesome! I'll be going to his facility next week to takes some product photos of the new HVX cinetech gear.

I'll also be getting a Cinetech design shoulder support system that clips into the Base. Karl makes some truly innovative stuff. I'll post the pictures soon!
