Which films have the best photography?

I share the same favorites of many that have been said already; The Godfather, Saving Private Ryan, The Insider; but the most beautiful images I've seen on film are in The Lord of the Rings films. Most may consider them too heavily color corrected but I just finished watching the extended editions and could not help being so dazzled by the images. The moods were utterly perfect for each scene. The pictorial lighting not only complemented the moods but truly made me believe that the story takes place in another world. I have not seen a lot of the films mentioned, so I am not refuting anyone's opinions, just thought The Lord of the Rings needed to be said. :)

Pretty much any Stanley Kubrick film.

And Lost in Translation.

btw, first post... awesome.

"...Director - Stanley Kubrick
Barry Lyndon (1975) - Boring film but shot with candles
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)..." Quoting "BlueVision" from page 2 of this post.

I love Stanley Kubrick films, so I must disagree with your assessment that "Barry Lyndon" is boring. In fact, in my eyes, it is a brilliant masterpiece and the most beautifully shot film ever made...so there!

I saw a documentary on Kubrick and apparently he acquired a lens from NASA(correct me if I'm wrong) that allowed him to shoot Barry Lyndon using candle light. His cameraman said that he had to completely rebuild a camera to accommodate this lens.

I thought The Village was well shot. I know everyone hates the movie ( i didnt ) ,but the cinematography and direction were excellent. My other favorite would be Schindlers List. To make a black and white film that visually interesting is quite the acheivment.

Hero is amazin
Amalie is great yes,
City of God blew me away
Sin City is something totally new and I like it, but i won´t probably ever use that technique
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (i think that was the title, australian drag-queen film) had a few great shots when they crossed the desert ....
American Beauty has not one shot that could be done better IMO
and i like Luis Trenker films. you won´t know them, they are from the 50s and always high-alpine stories. great fun...

Any of Terrence Malick's films look wonderful: "Days of Heaven", "Badlands", "The Thin Red Line." In that same vein David Gordon Green's "George Washington" is also beautiful. Just some of my favorites.

did anybody mention that movie migration i think it was called. the birds migrating, simply breath taking
