I had originally posted this on User Films, but this section makes more sense. Here's my original post:
Hi guys,
Couldn't find a suitable section in this forum to post this, so I'm posting it here. Please feel free to move this to the correct section, if needed.
I'm having a short film completed this month. Should have it finished in 2 weeks. This is a 24min short film, so now I'm thinking which film festivals are the best to submit to. Of course, important film festivals all demand world premieres and stuff like that, so it's crucial to choose the right ones.
Of course, timing would dictate that Cannes is the first choice as it's the first big film festival that's yet to start their call for entries (Berlinale and Sundance just closed their submission deadlines). But Cannes short film competition demands a maximum of 15min per short film, which would rule out my film, immediately. Is applying for the Cannes short film corner worth it? I mean, besides everyone getting accepted, it would also rule out any chances of winning an award or being in an official selection of another major film festival, because my film would loose its "world premiere" status, right?
So, at this point of the filmic year, which major film festivals should I be scouting?

Important to say I'm from Europe, so it's easier for me to attend european film festivals. Which isn't to say I'll submit just to european films festivals of course...
