well..now I understand h4n is kind weak...not every mic work well with it..
I need a eng mic..
I already tried some search...I find people say Electro-Voice re50 and Beyerdynamic m58 deos not play well with h4n...but I do not know which one play well with h4n...does someone have example??

...ok....I did more study..
Now I know that eng mic usually do not play well with h4n..because eng mic has very low sensitivity output and the preamp of h4n is weak..so even u turn up the gain all the way to 100..it still end up very quiet sounds and also increased nosie...

but..I think many people with h4n are likely to do eng work because h4n is portable and come in handy when on location..
so what eng mic u guys use with h4n???there should be some out there that play relatively well with h4n..right??

As the 'defacto standard' reporter's mic, (in NY anyway) the Electro-Voice RE50 does have a low output, so the H4n's pre amps may be noticeably noisy in 'quiet' environments and with low talkers. The EV RE50N 'N/DYM' version has a higher output. The Sennheiser MD42 or MD46 may be worth looking into as well. However no dynamic is going to have the inherent higher output level of a condenser. However the tradeoff would be reliability.
