does anyone have any advice as to which dvd-r is best to use when burning on a mac? will any dvd-r, like a memorex or verbatim work?

depending on what kind of superdrive version you have, if it is the newest then any dvd-r, dvd+r should work fine. I use Prodisc or Ritek they work well with most DVD burners and are compatible with most dvd players. Verbatim discs work great too.

If you have a pioneer burner, then any dvd-r would work perfect. I have one and it burns everything from name brand to wal-mart flawlessly. Or maybe I'm just lucky.

Any DVD(minus)R brand works.
I've found fuji to work best.....
