which diameter BBG for 4053?

Hi all,

I am looking to buy a AT4053a in combo with the rycote baby ball gag. Does anyone know which diameter to get? The 4053 is 21mm in diameter, and there are BBG's for 20mm and 22mm, but not 21mm. I asked rycote, but got no response. Did anyone try this?

I use a k-tek zepp with a 4073 and it works great. I believe they come in small, medium, and large. A quick call to K-Tek and they can tell you the right one to order. They're great people to deal with and they have great products.

I'm adding to my post after thinking about this and checking out the 4053a on the B&H site. They call it a hypercardoid studio condensor mike. The 4073a however IS a shotgun mic and I agree that a BBG would not be the best choice for a shotgun mic.

As a less expensive alternative you also might want to check on an Octava MK012 from The Sound Room. It's much less money and is a great mic. They also sell BBG's and I think DVXuser members still get a discount. The price of an Octava with the BBG would be about as much as just the 4053a alone. It's all about which mic you prefer I guess. I'm no expert but just thought this might help.

The AT4053a is a hyper microphone so the BBG should work just fine. Honestly, I don't know what diameter would work, but the Oktava is about 23 mm at it's widest and the 20 mm BBG works for it. Hope that clarifies a little bit.
