Hi,
I am getting my EX3 camera in a months time . Now I am just doing my hunting for the best DOF for that camera. I want to buy film prime lenses such as Cooke or Lomo (...if I get them cheap somewhere) or simple SLR camera lenses.

I have heard that P+S Technic Mini 35 400 with relay lenses will work perfectly with film lenses. ...but is is very expensive..So is there any options available to give best results....M2 or Letus Ultimate or Brevies...???

Thanks in advance

or sgpro, he already has the fix for the flipped sg, non flipped will be here shortly. thats what I will be using when my EX1 comes in, keep in touch I get you some footage.

Why are you spending the extra money on the EX3 if you arent going to remove the front lens and use an adapter with a relay lens? If your only going to use a redrock, letus or SG, then you should have bought the EX1 with the fixed lens.
The only reasonable adapter for the EX3 is the P+S Tech, so just rent one when you need it.

Thks for replies

Hey Guys,
Thks for your reply....From the replies it seems that other DOF adapters apart from P+S mini 35 400 cannot be used after removing the lens of EX3.

But I think EX3 can be used with the lens with Letus or M2 ....

(I got a great price on EX3..so opted for EX3)

Can you all guys specify the lenses that can be used with Letus or M2 or even P+S?

Okay, first of all, a little research goes a long way. But since you've asked, the best adapter for the EX3 isn't known yet. The EX3 just came out and, as you can tell on the forums, hardly anyone has one on hand. Philip Bloom has tested the EX3 with the Letus Ultimate adapter with a relay lens. You can read more about that here:

http://www.philipbloom.co.uk/Philip_Bloom/Home.html

You can also search around here, he's on DVXUser. The best recommendation I can give is to wait and see how the relay lenses from the various 35mm adapter makers turns out. Cinevate and Letus are working on them for sure and a Redrockmicro person at NAB told me they were working on their own relay lenses. But the sad part about all that is that, unless I've missed something within the past few weeks, they've been working on making relay lenses for a very long time, particularly for the Canon XL and 1/3" mounts found on the JVC HD100/200 series and Sony Z7U. The only other relay lens that's been getting a lot of attention is a 2/3" relay for cameras like the Panasonic HPX500. So far I haven't seen much interest in a 1/2" relay lens, but then again, nobody saw the EX3 coming either. Until then, I would say you would be safe going with either the Cinevate Brevis or the Letus Ultimate. Both should offer an upgrade path once the relay lenses do come out.

The only other options are to rent a P+S Technik setup when you need it and, the cheapest of all, just use the stock camera lens. 1/2" should give a little more DOF control than 1/3" cameras do, so you could very well make do with that in the meantime while you wait for the perfect solution.

Lenses are the most difficult thing to recommend because it depends on your budget and what you're willing to work with. Most people use Nikon because they're inexpensive and have manual control. The easiest solution is to use the three AF-S zooms: 17-35mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8, and 80-200mm 2.8. That just about covers all your focal lengths, except 71-79mm, and it gives you a consistent look and aperture rating. Primes can range from anywhere between 8mm and up and that depends on preference and research into the lenses. I, and I'm sure many people, use Ken Rockwell's camera site for lens reviews. He doesn't cover every lens but he's got almost all of them.

www.kenrockwell.com

Just find a lens you want and, before buying it, look and see what Ken says about it. Some pretty enticing lenses, like the Nikon 18mm 3.5, can turn out to be less than ideal. Reading the reviews will also, if you don't know already, teach you things to look for in lenses, such as ghosting, breathing, corner bending, ect.

Buying yourself the EX3 was the easy part, it's the 35mm adapter part that's hard to answer.

Cinevate's B4 relay will be ported to this camera, and as always, the Brevis MP.1 is based on a fully modular design. This means that past/current/future users of our product will be able to take advantage of a purpose designed, multi-format relay for the EX3 when the camera is out and our physical adapter is done. The relay is purpose designed to well exceed resolution requirements of a native 1920x1080 2/3" chip and will be very well suited for the EX3. The unit has a very high MTF, with adjustable backfocus, aperture...and yes, support for full SLR and cine frame widths. It's designed for nearly perfect edge to edge sharpness at f2...about 4 stops better than the EX1's f8. We're using the very latest technology including various iterations of low dispersion glass to meet our optical targets. Add to that ouir recent announcement on a partnership with Zeiss, and things are looking very good.

Our EX1 fix is out with increased DOF, improved bokeh and very tight grain structure, also a drop-in for current Brevis adapter users :-) This means that our current platform can be used on the EX1, or EX3 by just adding/removing the relay module.

Forgive the blatant product plug but call me guilty...we're pretty excited about what's coming.

Dennis,

Will this relay be useable for both 2/3 and 1/2 B4 mounts?
Is it only useable with the Brevis?
What price point are we looking at?
x/y adjustment?

Weird that no one mentioned the ONLY adapter that should ever be considered in unison with the EX3 ; ) !
The COMPACT version of the P+S Technik called the: "P+S Technick Mini35c".... I spoke to ZGC (who deals in P+S Technink) and they've reported that the Mini35c will very soon work with the EX3.

Just think of how SMALL this rig will be when bypassing the fixed lens that you would have on other cams such as the EX1 or HVX. Now handheld is possible again... and very little light loss. Not to mentions P+S Technicks unmatched build quality.

tho ive never handled one, p+s has always seemed ridiculously well built. thus the pricetag...
