Which 4X4 filters???

Rush, a while back I bought the Schneider True-Pol from you guys:

SCHNEIDER OPTICS 4X4 SQUARE DROP-IN FILTERS
4X4 SQUARE DROP-IN FILTERS
Code: 68013044

..and now I realize that I have no idea if it's a "circular" or "linear"... feelin' kinda stupid but oh well, you see the problem is that here in Seattle where it's been raining for like a hundred days now I have no real light to play with! On that note, can a polarizer have any affect when shooting a night scene for removing the glare of lights say on an exterior restaurant window (I tried it and it didn't seem to have any affect at all).

This is a very old thread, but someone (else) may read it someday so I'll add this: Polarizers work best with a light source that is polarized and do basically nothing with light that is unpolarized. That's why they make clouds pop in a sky photo -- the sky always has some polarized light, which the filter can attenuate, and light reflecting off clouds is diffuse and un-polarized, so the polarizer has relatively no effect on them. Sky at 90 degrees to the sun and some reflections off glass or water are polarized and the filters will let you control the reflections. Specular highlights (e.g. sun reflecting off chrome or polished metal) and windows reflecting artificial light source at night are usually not polarized and so the filters have little to no effect. In artificial light situations, you can put polarized gels over the lights to make a polarizer work for you if you have a reason to use it (say to take the glare off a fish tank.)

As mentioned above, circular polarizers are used with highly automated cameras because their sensors can be thrown off by linear polarization. Since cameras are trending toward more complexity and go obsolete faster than filters do (my oldest camera is less than 5 years old, my oldest filter is more than 30 years old,) it's usually a safe bet to buy a circular polarizer these days.

I have purchased stuff from Rush at EVS and it is an OK outfit, but this seems a bit much for a vendor post, even a sponsor. The information is appropriate, pricing and the sell job, not so much IMHO. What if Henry Posner replied that BH would sell for $10 less? Rush replies...... Where does that road end?

Ive also been looking around trying to figure out what filter to get. I have an RRM matte box which will take either 4x4 or 4x5.65 filters and Im shooting DSLR so the 4x4s should work just fine. I was looking at the Lee brand filters I know those are great for photography, but what else is there? I only need ND filters to start and I would like to stick with glass.
