Where to start, where to start...

I'm sure that this has been asked before, so I apologize, but:

I have been messing around with AE recently and cannot really get a grip on it. It's significantly less intuitive to me than FCP or even Avid. But I am determined to learn it through and through, because I have seen so many things that it can do like no other program.

So I was curious if someone could suggest a good starting point for learning this program -- looks like the Meyer books are good? Anything else?

Thanks!

I had the same issue...trying to get up to speed on AE...I ended up getting an online membership to VTC....www.vtc.com...I think it's costing me $30 per month, but one nice thing about it is that I'm able to access ALL of the tuturials

I hope this helps.

Both the books and the vtc website are good ways to learn AE! If you have lots of time during a months time then go with the vtc.com, if you only have a couple of hours here and there go with the book. I like vtc, but I usually only get that kind of free time over the summer.

read help&tutorial. try to do different clips in AE and if you have questions come here.

1) Pick up the Meyer books. They're the AE Bible.

2) If you can, get the Total Training series on AE. That will get you up to speed quickly.

3) If you can't get the dvd's, at least get the meyer books and work through them.

4) Ask away. We're here to help.

I would start with text animation. It is where I started. I've got some beginner tutorials on my site. Definitely go to the Wrigley Video forum and look at the user tutorials. There's a link on my site.

Check out this link, too...

Overview of All Effects

I reference the above link and the AE help files all the time.

thanks guys -- you've all been a great help. i'm 3/4 of the way through the first meyer book and it's been absolutely great...i can't wait to get to the 2nd one!

and the creativecow forums are incredibly helpful as well. these are great resources.
