Where to hold auditions?

Hey, I've only got two parts in my movie left to cast, and seeing as I've run out of friends who are willing to participate, I need to expand to outside talent.

The local community theater was ok advertising my audition but not about letting me use their facility to hold auditions. Boys and Girls club wanted me to have insurance.

I'm not really sure where to hold them, any ideas?

We used a local theatre. They never mentioned insurance. The people that manage theatres are often actors. Actors helped us all the way through. And this is in Hollywood!

Be sure to ask for the "Indie Beg Price" :D

Oh yeah, Plan B: We had to re-cast at one point. This was our third audition and we literally held it at my apartment! We warned the actors ahead of time with an email explaining the situation. It worked and was basically free.

I've seen other people suggest community center rooms and rooms in a public library. Probably worth looking into.

your garage! :)

local church, maybe conference room in apartment complex(if you live in apts.), local college/ high school,...

I was able to get a meeting room at a local public library, free of charge, no insurance. The only requirements were that the meeting could not generate a profit (no fund raising, pyramid schemes, etc) and it had to be open to the public (if someone wanted to sit in and watch I couldn't turn them away).

Worked out great, except that only one actor showed up...but that's a different matter altogether :)

Thanks for the ideas!

As for the garage idea.... I don't think so.

Not only is it being turned into a set right now, I don't want angry turn aways egging my house. ;)

I'll call a few places tomorrow, let you know how it goes.

some of the best places are hotel/resort conference rooms, and local theatres. you can usually rent the theatres out before the showtimes begin in the afternoon. they make a great "stage" to test out the talent on. on the other hand the conference rooms are generally easier to set up any sort of equipment in, and handle issues like lighting, ect due to plentiful electrical outlets and a non sloping/ staircased floor.
