Where to Find Editors

I do specialty commercial work (safety and offshore industry) and I have found that my regular customers keep me far to busy to have a normal life. I would like to use editors to do some of the work so that I can expand. However, I want to start off freelance, get to know them and evaluate their skills before hiring. So I started by posting my jobs on the local university career center board for their film and broadcast school, but I've had no inquiries in a week.

What would you guys do to find local editors who want to get a shot in the business? Are there accreditation or certification bodies that could help?

Thanks,

Lawrence

If these clients are important, I wouldn't be trying to find student's with little experience for these jobs.

Try posting on mandy.com and media-match.com. Get references and a reel.

Couldnt agree with arniepix more....there's no college kid I could trust cutting one of my good clients projects. Referrals from trusted industry pros is the way to go. Be careful though, I've heard many instances where a few years down the road the 'freelancer' you hired is now producing for that company which no longer calls you!

Thanks so much for the replies. I will post on mandy.com and media-match.com and see what editors are asking for these days. With my industry, clients are more concerned that they get someone with a background in safety (I have 12 years). I am currently doing all the work myself, so I figured overseeing or even training other editors wouldn't be a stretch from what I'm doing now. Of course, I doubt any students are willing to go around the clock with me as I see these projects through.

But it really boils down to fear. I want to minimize my financial losses if I discover that for some reason, I couldn't market well enough to produce the revenue I need to make it work with hired employees. So if I can give a young guy a chance, and train him along the way, then he might be someone I could hire and eventually promote as my company grows.

Again, I really appreciate the advice. It's great that you guys take the time to help out.

Lawrence
