Where to find actors???

Hey, I wondering where's the best place to post to find an actor here in Los Angeles? I'm also looking specifically for African American actors as well. Is there any place other than craigslist where I can post a role and the type of actor I'm looking for and get responses? Thanks.

I live in a much smaller area so this may not be a good suggestion, but the University of Montana is an excellent place to find actors, so maybe post something at one of the many schools down there...

Try breakdownexpress.com It's free to sign up with and you'll probably get a ton of actors applying.

+1. Since your gig is in Los Angeles, you'll get MANY submissions through breakdownexpress. Depending on your compensation, you can basically choose who you want out of the stack. Some people apply without looking at the dates or the compensation though, so you might get a few people that aren't willing to do it because of another commitment or because you aren't paying enough.

Are any of the above suggestions free to post breakdowns? I'm looking to find people for my short and Craigslist is yielding no results.

In NYC area your choices are: NYCastings, Actors Access/breakdown services, Backstage, then there are Mandy and Craigslist. I don't think anything is free but all are effective.

Well I have absolutely $0.00 money, so looks like I'm screwed. Thanks for the suggestions though. Road block after Road block.

Actorsaccess is free on the casting side (breakdownexpress) and mandy is free on both sides. Not sure about nycastings, but it's probably free on the casting side as well. There is a monthly fee for the actors who submit.

Breakdownexpress has by far the largest talent pool of the three.

Go for it!

In addition to the above recommendations, I like searching through reels on youtube... usually around 4am :). Like the OP I'm fortunate to also be in Los Angeles and started searching for things like "reel actress los angeles hispanic" and variations on that. And that's how I found the young woman I'm casting in Down and Dangerous... Paulie Rojas.

This is an awesome idea. However, when I try this I can only find Union actors. So until I'm doing union shorts, it seems like it's not going to work.

When I go to post something on breakdownexpress I found this page:

$50 to post a breakdown for a short.
$100 for a feature.

Only if you want to submit to agents. It's free if you're casting to actors directly on actorsaccess. Features, shorts, whatever...

Go here:

...and click on the orange "Post a Breakdown" banner to the upper right. It'll take you to a page where you'll fill in info about the project. They'll send you a member name, etc. and you're in.

100% free : )

HAHAHA.

Don't give up, it's standard operating procedure for any dream chasing, not just film making.

Persistence trumps luck every time! Just keep hammering at it.

You'll be amazed how many actors are willing to work for free if they like your project and/or your past work. A lot of new actors need quality looking material for a reel. Especially in LA, you should have no problem.

I recently did used mandy.com for a casting and I got some great actors, so maybe give that a try. I've also used modelmayhem to find some actresses in the past and that also worked out very well...some very talented people out there!
