where to buy or how to make prop weapons?

I've been searching all over the web to find safe prop axes. Something like a woodsman axe (you know those tree choppers) or machettes like Jason Voorhees uses.

All the stuff I find are fake looking plastic toys. Where can I find safe props for a horror short? Stainless steel/mirrored chrome look is what I'm trying to get on the blades.

Or if anyone knows how to make a realistic safe edged weapon prop, that'd be great too.

Thanks for the reply bluespider. I've done some searches on ebay and on google, but there doesn't seem to be any modern day axes that are made with foam rubber, etc. Seems like most of the stuff out there are either real, or they are replicas from films (like sleepy hollow) which are rather expensive.
 
You could also get like fake weapons..but that look shiney...i have a sword thats all plastic but the ''metal'' part is shiney and looks like real steal
