They make the best cordless phones?

Why no pro wireless sound gear?

Is it because of the monopoly aggreement wth other companys?

You know the one where the big boys sony jvc samsung pana get together and decide where they will compete pricelock products and not really compete but scam consumers (this has been going on for 10-20 years so shut up, and not new, long long ago the brits did the same with tea and cofee(boston tea party ring a bell))

Maybe that's a good question? Sony at least HAS a presence in the wireless market... but I'd have a hard time going Sony over Sennheiser in that price range.

Panny would have to come up with something good. I think Sennheiser's got the $500 range locked... and by the time you clear a grand there's Lectro... and I'd say they've got that range locked... until $3K or so and then it's Zaxcom.

What I'd REALLY like to see is a competitive shotgun or other mic type from either Sony or Panasonic. Sony has been into sound for a long time and their headphones are THE standard for location headphones. (Sure there are better 'phones at higher prices... but watch ANY show which features a "behind the scenes" and you ALWAYS see the 7506 on somebody's head.)

So where are these big hitters in the mic market? I'm sure they could figure some of this stuff out and maybe even offer a better product then what's currently available... but most likely somebody has done a study to see the profitability of that venture and realized that the development cycle would be too lengthy to come up with a worthy competitor to the current market leaders.

Sony has tried to offer a $500 shotgun for YEARS and I still don't think one in a hundred guys use it... It's just not as good as a 4073a and it's the same price. Wouldn't you think SONY would have the resources to trounce an Audio Technica offering? It's odd that in reality it's not even close... even though the price is.

Sony has really been TRYING to get a foothold in the wireless market, but they always throttle back on the important specs... why? At least Panasonic has a well-earned reputation for REALLY going for it on new products. Sony tried for YEARS (successfully) to regulate development on the pd150-pd170 to keep that cam from competing with their own offerings above that point. Panasonic, on the other hand, went from a second-place "also-ran"... all the way up to the prosumer DEFACTO standard for video. Why? Because they didn't pussy-foot around with the design of the DVX... The DVX was a niche KILLER.

I guess maybe that was your point. If Panasonic WENT FOR IT... like they did with the DVX... maybe in two years we'd all be saying Sennheiser-who?

If Panasonic tries to get into the pro-sumer or pro audio market, nobody will take them seriously. I know I wouldn't, and my customers wouldn't. That market is already saturated. They would have to come up with a product that does not exist to even have a chance.

I don't think they'd do what they'd HAVE to do for market share... but I can tell you that before the DVX I would NEVER have considered a camera from Panasonic.

If they made a better wireless system at the same price as the Sennheiser... let's say made even better and smaller and more convenient... and more powerful and better performing... people would beat down your doors to get one. Panasonic went from a nothing in the prosumer market (for cams) to virtually OWNING it...

These days I don't think anybody even cares about brand... as long as it's SOME name brand... if the product has the metal to do the job better.

True, but consider this:

We sell both the Sennheiser G2's and Sony UWP-C1's. The G2's dominate over the Sony's. For every 5 G2's I sell, I sell one or two Sony's. Now in my opinion, they both have their ups and downs, and are pretty much even in my book. However, Sennheiser has the name, and the reputation behind them. Panasonic would have to come out with a better system then the G2's at a lower price point to even hope to compete.

-Dave

A New name will probably arise when the digital systems prices drop. Until then, I don't think we'll be seeing new faces on this market...

Just LOOK at a G2 in person and look at a UWP in person... Nobody will pick up both of these units and play with them for 2 minutes and then get the Sony over the Sennheiser. All I'm saying is that if Panasonic came up with something to create that same gap between some new system and the current Sennheiser then people would get it. I'm surprised you sell ANY Sonys... Have somebody actually use both of them for 15 minutes. The Sennheiser is actually FUN to use... it's got convenience in spades.

Very small, all metal construction... alla Lectro. Powerful transmitter... alla Lectro... Easy setup alla Lectro (high end) or G2 (lower end)... and a nice LED display like a Lectro or the G2 and then price it right... Wammo.

You told some guy that if he could make CF boom poles at 13' and sell 'em for around $400 that you could never keep 'em in stock... You don't think that if Panny came up with a niche killer like the DVX... for wireless... that people would buy 'em? I would... and I'm still waiting on that guy for the boom poles too! (I kid because I care...)

truth is panasonic can easily make a wireless system based on there best 5.8ghz cordless phone tech... and offer it at under $300

but big electronics companys work together to squeeze customers for $

you say panasonic isnt big with sound?

wireless system has nothing to do with sound it is just a replacement for your cable...

PANASONIC can make an advanced 5.8ghz system easy for $500 u.s. with xlr and built in lithium ion batteries... but again they work close with other companys, cousin sony would be plenty mad

panasonic is the # 1 cordless phone manufacturer on the planet best quality bar none

this would be easy unless you have sony breathing on you...

You need to go to www.lectrosonics.com and read about what it actually takes to make a really good wireless system.

Why do you think Sony and Sennheiser are leaving all that money on the table? Lectrosonic is the most successful wireless company in the professional field... and their systems average around the $2K mark...

Did Lectro somehow get the love of these mega-conglomerates and they got cut into the conspiracy? I doubt it... and the reason that EVERY professional uses Lectro (or Zaxcom) is only because they work GREAT.

Read the Lectro site and you'll see what I mean. It isn't easy to build a good wireless... or cheap. You need to listen to the BEST cordless phone money can buy... and then listen to a Lectro wireless at the same range... There will be NO comparison... Even a G2 versus an excellent cordless phone is no comparison. Try it.

Also I gotta' say that Panasonic isn't in bed with Sony. Panasonic is trying to KILL Sony. Why do you think there are ALWAYS format wars everytime a new standard is evolving? It's the same reason Panasonic set out to KILL the category of "prosumer" cam with the DVX... Every company wants to thrive in the market and eliminate competition in the process.

That's how money is made... Design for revolution, Build for excellence, Sell for profitability, and Market for category domination. It's the same recipe for success EVERY time.

If Panasonic could EASILY kick the ass of the competition believe me... they would do it tomorrow.
