Where is my Scratch Drive?

My 2nd hard drive is not showing up on my Mac. When I open Final Cut Pro, it says:

One or more of the scratch disks you have specified does not have read/write access.

To preserve the integrity of the data used by Final Cut Pro it is necessary to ensure read/write access to the following path:

Scratch/

It gives 3 options:

QUIT CHECK AGAIN RESET SCRATCH DISKS

The Scratch icon is not on my desktop, nor does it show up in Finder or Disk Utility...
What does this mean? What can I do?
Please help!
Thanks...

We might need a little more information than this!!

Computer...

Drives...

Updates??....

Etc.

Also, might be better in the FCP forum.

But for now, are you sure it is powered on? Can you read the files from the findr?

It appears not to be a FCP issue. The Scratch Drive is simply missing from my Mac Pro. It does not show up in Finder or Disk Utility.

My Mac is a Mac Pro with 2 2.8 GHZ Quad Core
8 Gigs RAM

I bought the Scratch drive from Newegg a few months ago.

OS 10.5.6

How do I know for sure if it is powered on? How do I go about paying someone to retrieve my data?
Any help would be great.

Do you hear any noises from the drive when you power it on? If you hear a repeated clunk shortly after startup, then it's going bad. If not, did you try unplugging, shutting down, starting up and then plugging the drive back in? Also, if you have more than one port on the drive, try another. I have one drive that disappeared, which I was using with firewire, but also had a usb port. It came up with the usb port.

Again, what make and model is the drive? If it's a Seagate Barracuda, you may have experienced the locked firmware issue. If not, you might try taking the drive out and sticking it in an external enclosure and see if you can pull it up externally.

Yes, it's a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11. I am now aware of the firmware issue. I am on ho,d with them right now. My understanding is that if it is the firmware issue they will attempt to recover the drive free of charge...any ideas?
