I just called Panera Bread in Sacramento and said I heard they have meeting rooms they let people use and the guy told me that was a farce (that was his exact word, "farce").

Well I guess things are different here. I've used the community room at Panera for just this reason.

And okay, I guess I'm no man of the world for not knowing Panera is a national chain...but I HAVE heard of that Wal Mart place....

Larry, did they hook you up? if not maybe you should pitch a tent in your front yard.

They gave me some contacts I had already talked to. They were good contacts under normal circumstances, however for this one I have very little money and everyone wants $300+.

My wife keeps asking why I don't just have it in the park, but that seems weird to me. Of course, the other problem is it might rain.

Plus if you have people waiting, even if it is nice, they need to have access to facilities.

Oh that wouldn't be a problem, there are some beautiful parks all around Sacramento (we are known as the "City of Trees" after all :)) and all the parks have very adequate facilities and picnic areas where people could wait. A couple of the parks also have ampitheatres, but now the audition is going to be in the evening and it will probably be cold, might be raining and it will be dark.

Back to the phone...got more calls to make. I refuse to be defeated!! Someone has to have a room I can use (and can afford to use)

Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions.

Peace,
Larry

How about contacting a local realtor who deals with commercial properties. I'm sure a property owner with noone renting from them this month wouldn't mind a little extra cash for this. The realtor could ask their clients. Best if you know a friendly realtor willing to ask for you.

Well, after all the fuss I think I found a place. When I called the public library a couple days ago they said you have to 1) Be a non-profit organization and 2) the meeting has to be open to the public. End of story, no good.

In desperation I called again today and explained my situation to yet another person and they said, "Oh, well, the not-for-profit part means you can't charge for people to attend the meeting and the 'open to the public' part means if someone wanted to come in and watch I can't turn them away." I immediately said check the calendar and book it! :)

Finally, all the frustration and agony for three days. I was getting ready to settle for the cheapest location which was $200 (I didn't know where the money was going to come from, but I had to have a place) and now I have a place at no charge. :big-sigh-of-relief smilie:

F auditions

F auditions

I don't like the audition process. Big pain in the ass. I agree with David Mamet on this. Let me see your body of work, if you have any. If I like what I see, I'll give you the part.

I have to meet with someone before I cast them. I don't necessarily need to audition them if I get a strong recommendation or have seen their work, especially for smaller roles. But I need to sit down, face to face and get to know them a little.
