Where do I start?

Whenever I research film I have never got into FX. I never thought I could apply it to any of the type of material I was writing. After seeing some documentaries, it looks like it would be something worth looking in to. What would be a good starter for trying to get my head wrapped around the subject?

Youtube videos, tutorial sites would be great.
