Where do cameras go from here?

What is this ETC mode on the GH series? Sounds cool.

However, I meant, like the other person said, in a camcorder form factor, with proper XLRs, image monitoring tools, etc. DSLRs make great images but they are a pain to work with for a number of reasons, in my opinion.

What's that stills camera that does this?

There are actually quite a few cameras that can do this. The Lytro is the cheap consumer stills version. There is a company called Raytrix which makes light field cameras.

In fact their newest camera somehow uses the CMV4000 image sensor from cmosis, to do it. I believe they put a special microlens array over top of it. It can also do single camera 3d imaging. It is called the R5, and I believe it costs around $18k USD, and it is an industrial camera, so it requires a PC to connect to, and not only that, but it uses the new Nvidia GTX Titan for processing, so at least another $1k. Plus all the special software, it would probably come in around $30k total.

But it would be interesting to play with.

Everything is going towards sensor size and fps next. Red has their new Dragon and Jannard even posted on his forum, that he doesn't want it compared against 35mm film. He wants it compared against 65mm imax film. So as everyone steps up to 35mm with the BMCC 4k 35mm sensor and related cameras, eventually we'll then begin seeing 65mm sensors. And people people are also wanting faster FPS for slow motion which could eventually take down the phantom cameras. It's all about who the biggest are out there and competing against them. BMCC went after Red. Eventually someone will go after the Phantom.

Seems like everything is about chasing the big boys and doing what they do for less. The big boys are setting the trend, many of these smaller companies aren't inventing anything new. They're just taking what already exists and creating a cheaper version of it for consumers/prosumers.

I read that the FS100/FS700 has a universal type mount on it that allows you to mount just about any lens you want. Not sure how accurate that claim is, but seeing more cameras with a mount like that in the future would be great. That way you don't have to decide between a MFT mount or a Canon mount or a Nikon mount..not sure if this is possible without losing quality.
