I recently got a dv1000 deck from someone for free! very cool
but the catch was that the firewire port is not working. I know that people have problems with the firewire ports on dvx100's due to the hot firewire being plugged in.
Could this be the problem with my dv1000 deck?
If so, how can i get the port replaced?

thanks so much

Yup thats the deck. I hope it doesnt cost too much, but relative to the deck price i am sure it will be reasonable. The deck only has 80 hrs on it too!!

Looks like a really cool unit too! Beats digitizing from a handycam :) In the past, cameras have been a few hundred dollars, but then again they are at a higher price point and not as robust as decks. Also, you may consider a firewire bridge as a temporary fix. It's the unit that converts Svideo to Firewire. You can use that to get the footage into your system. Not as good as firewire, you lose digital audio and TC info, but I can't tell the difference.

Timecode is really imoprtant to me. So i think i will have to go with the fire wire fix, regardless of svideo option. Without that timecode all of the VTR logs i make would be meaningless!!
