Where can I find royalty-free soundscapes?

[seanarmada]

Hi all

I need to find high-quality soundscape recordings, specifically for the interior region of British Columbia, Canada. Are there any sites that might have region specific recordings?

Thanks!

There are places that might but they are usually quite expensive.

If it were me I would first decide if it needs to be "real".

If you are doing a documentary you are on thin ice with many if you use any sound you didn't record at the time you were filming.

So if I needed real recordings I would hit places like Digidesign User Conference and ask if anybody had recordings like I wanted. You also need to get a lot more specific than "soundscape recordings". What time of the year, what time of the day, what type of terrain, what type of weather?

Sound editors tend to have large libraries of stuff they have recorded or have the rights to. Of course it helps if you have something to trade. I have gotten many sounds by asking. Related I have a fair amount of nature recordings, but your description doesn't help me figure out if any of them might be useful.

Another place to ask is the Nature Sound Society, which do nothing but go out and record nature sounds.
