Where can I advertise for wedding videography?

I'm trying to start shooting more weddings, after booking 3 this summer from Craigslist at a low budget and building a reel. Does anyone have experience on where I can put ads out there? Craigslist is just a little dry in terms of anyone with a decent budget for a wedding. I did the hard work at low pay ($250 for a completed video) this summer and now think I'm worth at least $500-$600 for a wedding. I'd like to book more during the school year so that I can build a solid customer base for referrals (how I really expect to get most of my work) and maybe move on to doing this full time by next summer when I graduate college. Anyone have advice on that? I love shooting weddings, but should I not try and make it my full time gig while I continue to work on writing and producing my own films?

Here's my advice, and it won't happen overnight.

Get friendly with the bestest and most talented wedding photographers in your area. Maybe they'll be receptive, maybe they won't. Just see what you can do. Cuz if you strike up a nice relationship, you can piggyback off their clients. If they like you, they will refer you. Trust me.

Now I despise shooting weddings, I only do it out of dire necessity, but here's another piece of advice: Facebook. Make a business page, like what I have in my signature. Maybe put links to your work on vimeo or where you are hosting stuff. And network the hell out of that. Your best referrals will come when you do a great job for older sister and she tells or shows little sis and her friends. Word of mouth, word of mouth. Any video or proof of work, hey, you gotta start somewhere.

Again, I hate doing this s**t….but I work for a guy with a booming business. He and his cohorts really don't advertise. It's all Facebook. NETWORK.

And BTW, your rates are appallingly low, especially for New Jersey. Think in the thousands. Like 2 grand minimum and build up your packages from there.

And above all, keep up with the writing and producing so someday maybe you won't have to do this crap at all!
