Hi,
Does anyone know where to buy the CRI 90 sylvania daylight balanced bulbs for kino units in New York City? They should be about $10-$12 or equivelant? (Kino bulbs are $20 now!)
Thanks!
I've been paying $25 for safety coated 4' Kino tubes locally. B&H has the best price. All you need to get is 5600k and 90+ CRI and you should be happy... I'd caution against using NON-protected tubes though. At least get the slip-on lexan protectors which are available at Lowe's or Home Depot. The safety coated Kinos are done in such a way that they will FULLY enclose a disaster... whereas the slip-ons may still let a little glass out... but let me emphasize that you do NOT want to see a boom pole or something else pop a 4' tube on set... even if you have a light fall over it will cause a lot of trouble.
Philips makes some tubes with high CRI that are daylight rated... they're pretty cheap at Home Depot... as long as you have the same color temp tubes, and they're high CRI, and you do a manual white balance... they can be ANY color temp anyway... the only time it really matters to have true daylight tubes is if you plan to mix your fake daylight with real daylight... and in that case I haven't found any really good deals on 5600k.
