When to use motion?

Hi guys sorry if this is a stupid question, Ive had fcp studio 2 for a little over a year now, did a course in final cut pro editing to learn the basic ins and outs and Ive been really happy with it, been doing all my effects stuff like smallville effect, shaking text and other clichee tricks to make music videos with.

I never really bothered with the other softwares that came in the package. I decided to open up motion and realised there were alot of cool effects but it looks like a steep learning curve and was wondering when would you use motion, could the effects not be recreated in final cut pro? especially concerning text motion, am bit confused. Any guidance for a man with a really small brain :dankk2:

A motion software package like Motion basically offers you more effects, more control over those effects, easier control over those effects, not to mention tracking, 3D, etc. The list goes on and on.

I do 99% of my motion graphic work in After Effects (as opposed to Final Cut where most of it just isn't possible). Unless it's a basic title sequence or something, I won't use Final Cut. It's really just not built for that type of work and is why something like Motion is included in the studio package. Sure, some things can be done right in Final Cut, but Motion will give you better results.

The learning curve can be a little steep, but there are tons of learning resources out there on the internet. And once you get comfortable with the software, I think you'll find that some of the stuff you were trying to do in Final Cut will take much less time and effort and yield better results in Motion. I highly recommend learning some kind of motion graphics software.
