When do you think...

Como's back. back again
Is the best time to buy some american dollars (from canadian).

Since I'm moving to Newport (Might have even found a place!), I'm going to need some american money.

Right now, I think I'd be losing close to a grand, which sucks.

Will it get any better? What are my best options here?

Thanks,

Robbie

I'm not sure if buying right now is the best time.

Espcially in light of what is happening in Ottawa right now.

I'm heading to Seattle for this coming weekend, so it's going to have a little effect on me. Not much as everything has been pretty much pre-paid back in the summer when the dollar was even.

The Canadian dollar, relative to US currency, seems to track the price of oil, so when (and if) oil goes back up, you can count on the Canadian dollar following suit. I don't think prices will go back up until next summer. I'm happy right now because my money is going the other way. I remember when the Canadian dollar was 64 cents to the American buck. Good times.

In the name of buying low and selling high, 18 months from now will be the best time to buy.
Things will get far worse before they can get better. We're in far better hands now though. Things will indeed get better.

Ya, Batutta.

Gas just went down for us about a month ago. Was over a dollar per litre, now we're back to the original gas price which has been the same for years (the 70c-80c mark:)

I don't know which I want more, cheaper gas, or cheaper American money to buy for my trip :)

Buy your $US now. The $US dollar is in an up trend. Not that our economy is that much better than anyone else. You could say, we're in the least crappy position. Hard to believe I know. $US should be strong for a couple more months. $CD is in a down trend. For what it's worth.

At the outset the canadian dollar appears to be based on the price of oil. But ofcourse it's based on the economy which seems to rely heavily on oil.

That being the case, oil always rises in the winter when heating costs are more in demand and lowers in the summer. The timing would be maybe Feb? You'll have to have or get some experience in the stock market but in the 1 year I focused on it that was the flow.

Oil up in winter, down in summer. There's more to it than that because of trading charges on stocks. But that is the cycle as I've seen it in the short time I've looked at it.

I also found the 'experts' don't know crap so don't take any advice from an expert unless you know something about it yourself. I've seen those guys hit %50 of the time. So there it is. But tell me I'm wrong on oil. If the Canadian dollar rises as oil does , then maybe Feb or Mar is your best time.

//Jeez, late Feb, early March, it may peak. Late March you could be back to square one. Just sayin' :).
