will it work!?  we shall see...at least we had fun. you can't be in that setup and not laugh! so what do you guys think?

Re: Wheelchair Tips...now with pics!

It'll totally work! Just stabilize that camera and you'll be all good!

LOVE THE JPEGS! LOL

Re: Wheelchair Tips...now with pics!

hahah I can only imagine onlooker's thoughts as they're watching "that handicapped man making a movie over there"... LOL :)

Re: Wheelchair Tips...now with pics!

what kind of mic and shockmount did you use? what brand and model# for the wheelchair? ;D ;)

"that handicapped man making a movie over there"...

HAHA!! Good way to get funding!

Re: Wheelchair Tips...now with pics!

Actually the funny thing with most people that were walking and driving by is that they tried hard NOT to look at us. When something is out of the ordinary people get all uncomfortable. Funny ****! As I am sure you've all noticed with some people and cameras they get really weirded out in public. You throw a geared up wheelchair into the mix, people just want to forget they ever saw it. he he.

Rest of gear:
the mic is an Audio Technica AT-835B with 50' AT cable (I REALLY need a shorter one!). The shock mount is AT-8410A. Boom pole is a wired Lightwave GT-10W. We took the Panasonic TC7-VTR power/ac kit for the 7" LCD, removed the XLR input and put a cigarette lighter plug in its place to use it powered off the Bescor pack. Gets about 5 hours. My ball head shoe mount thing hasn't come in yet, if you're wondering why it's on my lap. But hell, it makes the setup look even more ghetto!

I have had this stuff for about a month now (very exciting to finally dive in and buy my own stuff!) and as some of you here know I love it and we are just starting to get to "know" it, but I am having weird sound issues on occassion and my vendor is clueless on it. The mic BUZZ hasn't happened for the last few shoots so you guys may have hit the spot with it being the overhead lighting or something we weren't thinking of that the mic was picking up.

Last night the audio was really low even with the knobs both jacked, I suspect the AA batteries I have powering the mic (I'm trying to run the least amount of stuff from off the cam battery as possible) were dead or dying, so that probably is an easy fix. Despite all these things however I love all the stuff I listed above. A good starter kit in my opinion for gear.

The wheelchair by the way was really kinda crappy. I don't remember the model number, LOL. We did the best we could with it though. Wish I could show you guys some footage from it, but alas I am going to wait till Premiere Pro 1.5 to do my 24pA editing. But when that is released I will post some stuff here and you can then see if it really worked. I think it was a cool idea for a shot, if I pulled it off...

Re: Wheelchair Tips...now with pics!

Good looking pics. Actually the only thing I would suggest is to have the operator strap his chest to the chair back. I did this with an Arri 16BL and straping myself to the chair back made ME more stable in the chair, especially in turns where you get a weight shift because i was focusing on the camera and not on keeping myself centered in the chair. Also, bring a really sturdy broom to sweep your path.

Re: Wheelchair Tips...now with pics!

good tips pennred...

already shot that scene pictured, however i WILL keep those ideas in mind the next time i pull out "the poor man's dolly". i plan on trying to use it for at least one more location.

the rest of the crew will have no problem tying me up to the chair im sure. he he.

Re: Wheelchair Tips...now with pics!

Any chance of seeing some of the footage? I plan on using a wheelchair alot on my next production and would love to see the results that you got with it.

Re: Wheelchair Tips...now with pics!

unfortunately i am shooting in 24pa and dont have an editor right now that can handle it. im waiting on premiere pro 1.5. i am sure stills from my tv wont do it justice. as soon as 1.5 is out i will share footage, np.
