Whats your favorite lens?

As always, it depends on what i'm doing, but in general situations:

In photography, mine is the 85mm for on the go, and I like the 24mm when sightseeing.

In cinematography, I like the 35mm- 40mm. I like the length and versitility. I can get my CU's without noticeable distortion but I can get back without having to move hundreds of feet away. I also enjoy 'seeing' the characters environment... it adds so much to the story and the art department will love you. Movement also looks more three dimensional closer to wider lenses. Long lenses are great for those romantic or big moments, but I only bring them out when they are to make a dramatic statement.

For my APS-C sized SLR (Eos 40d) my favorite lens is the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. It's mighty sharp even full open and has a nice range from wide-angle to light tele.

However for portraits the 50mm is a little short even on APS-C, 85mm or even more would be better. I hear the Canon 85mm f1.4 L is a premium portrait lens (but I don't have it).

I think 35mm film is roughly the same size as APS-C so the focal lengths compare pretty well.
It always depends on what you want to film - I guess you like the 85mm for close-ups, portraits and so on?

I love them all : )

I use an HVX and the brevis 35mm adapter and if I had to just use one lens then it would be my Nikon 85mm 1.4

Good choice Deano, i love my 85mm also over 50mm, just to blah for me, but my 105mm best for CUs and my 35mm again i would choose over the 50mm, the 50mm does not look that filmic to me..
